Kevyn Adams GM thread

This is total bullshit. There is no way that there is no one on earth that can be a qualified and capable GM for the Sabres.
For clarity, though I thought it was clear, what I mean by there are no available high-quality NHL GMs is that there are none who are experienced. There are, no question, people out there who can do the job. What there isn’t, is a bank of veteran and established high quality GMs who are looking for work. You are almost certainly hiring a 1st time GM or a veteran with a less than stellar track record. We aren’t getting a Jim Nill or Julien Brisebois level GM, unless we find one of our own.

Here's the difference: Golisano said the bottom line was to lose as little money as possible.....which means get into the playoffs by any means to get the at least 2 home games of revenue. So the handcuff there was purely financial

Pegula, by and large, will spend on the roster.....as long as he is "heard" in the GM's room. He was the driving force behind Ehrhoff and Leino. And I think he was the co-driving force of Hall (with Snake Oil Ralph).

HOWEVER, Darcy did tend to fall in love with his own draftees occasionally. So I think while Darcy would be a bit more active on the waiver wire and maybe via trades that didn't involve prospects. But I don't think much would change in the forward corps at all.
The days of Pegula spending if he’s heard ended with Hall and Covid. Since then the only thing he’s been heard saying is don’t spend. They’re at or near the bottom of spending in the league every year…in a period they’re supposed to be trying and going for it. When a dozen obvious moves happen they could make that would help them…they stay young and cheap and fail. You can’t rectify the two thoughts. You can’t say he will spend when he doesn’t. You can’t say he wants to win when he doesn’t make changes.

They don’t retain salaries when selling since Hall. They don’t use cap space to buy assets or get players. They don’t fill out their embarrassing scouting departments or hockey departments. They don’t spend on assistant coaches when guys have contracts. They brought in Lindy hoping to sell tickets because Jersey pays him more than they do. They don’t spend.

You can’t compete if you don’t spend. Starting with the front office. The one he hired an unqualified yes man to gut upon arrival

The post COVID Sabres feel an awful lot like the Post Madoff Mets under the Wilponzis.

Really make you think doesn't it?

If I’m the Sabres GM, I plan for a roster overhaul this offseason with a pretty incredible UFA class. I trade out every big contract but (OP, TT, DC, MS), targeting NHL ready or nearly prospects and future draft picks (ie not in 2025). Spend heavily in UFA looking for players that are smart, tough, skilled, fast, big in that order of priority. Using the acquired picks to bolster the roster next year in-season when slumping guys can be had. This team isn’t “a couple” of pieces from being a contender unless those pieces are a #1 C and a shutdown RHD, two positions that are nearly impossible to acquire.

Building a quality AHL team and building a quality NHL team are two completely different challenges.

And didn't the genius AGM hire Appert?
No. Appert was hired when Krueger had his tentacles all over the organization. He’s the one that got Taylor fired. Appert’s hiring was part of the 2020 summer of flat management excellence.

Karmanos came on board in 2021.
