That said, firing Adams means they have to pay him and the new guy too. And that's more money gone.

Maybe his contract will just end after this season, he extended it in September 2022 for several years, and now it's already 2025.

I don't know why anyone would think that Pegula is going to let Adams go anytime soon. Pegula wants a GM that will communicate with him and run an economical team. It sure seems like Adams is getting high marks from Pegula on those two fronts.

Are you sure about that, are you willing to bet on that? Because the results are not there or because the contract is ending or both, how the hell is he going to survive this season? Marek and Friedman said before the season that Adams would be fired if they didn't make the playoffs.

I do not believe that Adams was hired based on his ability to be a GM.

And I do not believe that his future employment as GM will be determined by wins and losses. That is because I place more value on the things that Terry Pegula has said publicly than things that media members or fans say.

He's just a passive GM and not very good on his own. He wanted to get Pesce, Ehlers or Necas and we know that, but he gave up after it didn't work out.

Adams basically has all promising young pieces, in the NHL and in the AHL. He doesn't want to give up on them for a question mark... he's willing to pull the trigger on sure things (but then most teams are).

I think that's understandable tbh. No one wants to give up on Power or Byram or Peterka or Quinn or Kulich... I'd say Cozens or Sammy but that ship might've sailed this season lol... and watch them go on to figure it out and succeed elsewhere, for anything less than a player who is going to be a top 6/top 4 success story here. Other teams might be solid enough to take that risk to try and put themselves over the top, but the Sabres can't seem to stop hitting new lows.

The problem is he's backed himself into a corner where he has nothing but promising young players to trade. He has to give up something big, and he's running out of sure things.

The fallback seems to always be, if the right trade doesn't work then we're happy seeing if these guys can figure it out here.

The BIGGER problem is that the warts on some of these players are starting to show and are losing value, some losing big value. Cozens can't remove his head from his ass. The rest I feel confident that NHL GM's see the potential in these guys being squandered on the Sabres, and one might be intrigued enough to slip and give up something really good in return lol... though as the seasons go by those ships will also sail.

We need real top end players coming back, we're way past the point of shake up moves. I don't like the idea of waiting around for these perfect opportunities... but I kinda get why we're not just sending a player like Power or Quinn out for something that might work if you squint a little. It's a rock and a hard place, though it's a situation of Adam's making for expecting the perpetually youngest team in the NHL to just figure it out.

Nah. With the cap skyrocketing, his $4M cap hit will be the going rate for 3rd pair defensemen. SOMEONE will think that they can "fix" him (personally, I think he's being scapegoated by the fanbase big time......he's not NEARLY as bad as some think/say).

Yeah, as I wrote that, I was thinking the injuries are more worrying than the cap or his current play.

$4 mill isn't going to scare people away for a still pretty young guy, though I want to say "with his potential" and I'm starting to doubt what that means.

Well, as far as I know, Adams turned down that part and it was the Carolina GM who ultimately decided not to do it at the last minute. Adams even hinted at it at the press conference.

Pesce, as I understand it, simply didn't want to go to Buffalo. Ehlers was ready to come, but didn't want to talk about an extension right away.

My problem is that Kevyn just gave up, didn't find alternatives to Pesce (although there were many) and Ehlers/Necas. He just went into the season with the kids.

It's a result of being a crappy team. When they lose to the point of knowing they won't make the playoffs, it's yet another let down season, and there's little to play for other than prepping for the next contract, then they aren't going to bleed any extra for their teammates. This is just what happens when you lose for so long - it's one of the most visible symptoms of a losing culture.

Add to that the obvious line of BS being spewed out from the front office, the players clearly see that winning isn't a priority. You think it's lost on the locker room that the ONLY FARKING move KA has done all season is to re-claim a back-up goalie he was stupid to have put on waivers in the first place? So if the organization doesn't seem to care that much, how are the players supposed to take on that mentality?

Unfortunately, if Pegula didnt fire him by now, it's not happening until the offseason at the earliest barring a crazy long losing streak (I suppose 10 games isnt enough. Maybe 15 will do the trick).

Jokes aside, something is weird about their roster management at present. One logical answer, I think, is that Adams is a lame duck, but Pegula won't fire him in season. It's also possible Kyv is "trying to get a deal done," but since he's an absolute fraud with no leverage, agents are dragging things out specifically in order to get an offer sheet. Both seem equally plausible to me. And therein lies my hope, which is a f***ing four letter word as a Sabres fan.

The agents for those players are probably trying to negotiate at the end of the season. After Buffalo's terrible 13 game stretch why would a player want to sign a contract immediately? Wait until you can try and dilute that with the rest of a season.
