That is absolutely brutal. If Pegula forced the trade, I’m not sure you can blame that on Murray but who cares at this point.

Afraid to ask what those two 2nd rounders became.

stop thinking they overpaid with 2 2nds.

It was a deal between GMd that goes like this....call in the afternoon on deadline day asking about pkayer X for a secondary prosprct
Other gm doesnt know much about their prospects.
Instead they say trade vet for future unnamed prospect cant be donr in hockey like it can in baseball they instead use futyr ef picks as a placeholders for this. None in current upcoming draft and then by next deadline they pick a prospect of theirs and return the picks

They used the picks to protect historical trade value of similar vet D which is usually a 2nd+ 2nd-5th
I get what you are saying, but the NHL is so much different than football. In football, the coaches are the CEO. In the NHL, coaches are at the bottom rung of importance or influence and are the first to get fired.

The big difference us in draft. For nhl you likely dont srr the players you pick till 4+ yrs from now.

In the NFL you expect something from rookies in yr 1.
Personality-wise, we struck gold with the Bills with McDermott. I feel like he is respectful enough where he listens to Pegula, but is bullheaded enough where he does it his own-way (and probably outlines why). He sounds like an extremely convincing and thorough guy. I also think he is in the top 1/4 of NFL coaches, and even without Josh Allen, his floor is pretty high.

I think Pegula has a more deeper understanding of hockey than he does of football so he might be more involved in hockey.

In football he might want to know more high profile things just from a PR standpoint
Hockey is so much more intricate than the NFL though. Salary cap decisions cannot be reversed in a year or 2. You are scouting teens across the planet in apples-to-oranges leagues and trying to project how they will play in the NHL as adults. The critical mix for an NHL team is much more complicated than a football team.

Prospect end you have years before you ser impact while football I'd next yr.

because its do now post draft. I think that is why contracts changed to heavy bonus and cut ties and it's so much system driven in who you sign it would be harder to change teams without a cut and run on vet contracts
So let's just put Lindy as POHO.... maybe? He has extensive experience as a player, captain, and coach, and has seen multiple organizations at this point. He carries credibility and seems like he should be well-respected. Bringing in his own GM would be a good move, obviously because that is a big workload. I would rather Lindy bring in a GM as POHO though and not a HC. I think many+ GM candidates would balk at being selected by a HC. Firing a coach is a lever any GM should be free to pull at any time.

How old is Ruff? Hes 70+. I dont see him in such a role long term

McNabb had a fling with one of the daughters and it went south.
What’s the basis for this claim? I don’t think you realize you’re framing McNabb is an enormous creep.

The two youngest daughters would have been teenagers when McNabb played for this organization as a 20-22yr old. The youngest daughter would have been in the statutory rape age range. Those two daughters didn’t live here either, they grew up outside Pittsburgh. The older of the two had left to start her pro tennis career around the time he joined the organization.

I don’t think your assertion happened. But if it did, as a father of 3 girls, I can understand why he wouldn’t want him near his daughters.

Its the kind of nonsense that managers here have had to deal with. Is it any wonder LaFontaine and Craig Patrick stormed out a few days before that deal was made?

McNabb was a physical freak and a good prospect at the time (and we could have used him the past 10 seasons or whatever it has been)
Or we could go with what was actually reported on at the time, unlike the rumor you’re spreading.

That LaFontaine and Murray disagreed on the direction of the rebuild and were butting heads. Murray wanted to go hard into tanking and Patty did not. A very visible fight on that front was over what to do with Ryan Miller. Patty wanted to extend him, Murray did not. It got to the point that Pegula had to get involved and decide which vision to move forward with. He sided with Murray and not long after Patty quit.

Pegula’s f*** up was hiring Patty in the first place. It’s dumb enough to impulsively hire a POHO after a nice dinner with him. No need to make up more drama on top of that.

It’s always been weird to me that posters look for conspiracies with Pegula at the time and miss the obvious f*** up by Patty. He was given a free hand to hire his own GM. He handled the search. So how did he f*** up so bad he never realized the guy he hired wanted to completely gut the organization? I mean they were butting heads about 2-3months after Murray got hired. You would think this would have been discussed during the interview.

Plus Murray made a lot of trades where he overpaid, making the McNabb deal one of many. Not some one off anomaly to get rid of a guy.
