One of the main criticisms, of many, is the overabundance of youth playing in the NHL too soon. So they're going to trade away what experience they have and get younger. The built a squad of talented players who will find success in stable environments and Terry will blame everyone but himself.

The cycle will continue. The Sabres will have the deepest prospect pool and then rush them to the NHL because they have no one else to fill the roster. They will struggle and then get traded. Rinse and repeat.

Until Terry sells or has an Ebenezer moment there is no way out.

I don't blame Kevyn any more. His incompetence is a feature, not a bug.

How long was the losing streak until Pegula fired Botts and Krueger?

It's wild Adams is still around, and should, unfortunately, give people pause in thinking Pegula is going to put together a competent front office. We're on this ride through hell for the long haul, unfortunately.

I'd advise anyone who is getting too emotionally invested to just take a break from the team and focus your attention elsewhere because it's going to be a while before this team in competitive.

Krueger was apparently fired after 12 straight losses, and Botts was apparently fired because he refused to lay off his staff.

Botterill wasn’t fired for losing. In fact, Kim Pegula said after the season they “had more information than the fans” as a reason why he was being retained.

He was fired weeks later when Terry told him to gut hockey ops to save him money and he refused.

He found a yes man to do it for him. It’s gone great.

Whenever we debate GMs in the Pegula era…remember one of them had conviction and the other is a f***ing puppet.

Adams decided the best way forward was to trade away the vets and load up on picks and prospects. If he had gone the other way and done everything he could have to keep Eichel and Reinhart, the Sabres core could currently be Eichel, Reinhart, Thompson and Dahlin. This team would be competing for Cups. It's a real shame.

Kevyn Adams was the GM of the losing streak that got Kreuger fired. He's still GM now.

I can’t believe he hasn’t even done the “trade for a scrappy tweener to add to the 4th line” move

There’s a chance they go 0 for a month and nobody gets fired, traded, waived, or claimed
I liked what I see from Kozak (if he can stay healthy). The harder to play against 4th line has been a bit disappointing for me ie the Lafferty pen late in the 3rd last night and there struggling pk.

I don't like Lafferty and I'm not crazy about Krebs and would like to try to give Kozak a better chance as a 4C. I liked what I saw from Malenstyn - Kozak - NAK line.

Pegula/Forton-Adams
I wonder if this is really the current hierarchy pulling the strings behind the scenes...
KA mentioned the phrase "being setup" at his diasaster as well.

Pegula will nix any trades for Sabres players scouted/drafted by Forton.

In hindsight Pegula bringing back Ruff was a mistake. I am not sure its fixable with Ruff at the helm.

The prospect pool once a gem of the NHL. For years we had the top prospect pool, now looks like a bunch of average prospects.

The defense is in tatters and the farm club has no one in sight that will help.

This franchise is a mess.

Pegula said he had a 5 year plan when he hired Adams as his press sec.

5 years later this team is in tatters

Drafting was awful his first 2-3 years.

He had no plan, where are the defensemen in the prospect pool from 3-5 years ago ready to take over an NHL spot?

Where are the forward prospects that are tough to play against or are also NHL ready?

Was Pegula's plan to draft and trade for finesse players that float around and disappear when things get tough?

5 year plan, tell me where is the building process and the thought process that brings us to this point now?
(this isn't directed at you Red Helmet its more rhetorical)

Ruff and Granato both tried to install a defensive system and both have failed. GMTP did not bring in players who could play defense.

I don't blame either coach.

In Adams/Pegula's first 3 years of drafting we have 1 NHL defenseman and thats Owen Power. Aside from that we have nothing to show on defense for Adams first 3 years of drafting. 27 picks., 1 NHL defenseman 1st overall. When he was drafting he only drafted left handed defenseman in his first 3 years and only 5 defensemen. Adams said he had a plan when taking over. Is that plan only drafting one defensemen in the first 3 rounds? Remember we are rebuilding at that time and defense is most important because it takes the longest to develop.

To compare Carolina in that same time frame took 3 right handed defensemen on 28 picks. They took 10 defensemen to Adams 5.

Nice plan you clown.

That never happened.

Pegula felt he found his McDermott for the Sabres with Ralph Krueger. So he gave Ralph the same amount of power over personnel and had him answer directly to Pegula, just like McD. Adams was brought in at the same time to be the Beane of this set up.

There was no 5 year plan. Pegula spent near the upper limit that offseason. He was delusionally giddy about a possible Cup run after they signed Hall.

HAHAHAHA

You have to try really hard to screw up like that.

This is simple. If you have a deep prospect pool and they continue to develop slowly or not at all, your player development program sucks.
The issue I have is not so much did they develop but in 2020 when Adams took over he told us he has a plan.

He drafted 1 defenseman in the first 3 rounds from 2020,2021,2022. Thats right 1. and only 5 in total out of 27.

What kind of plan is this?
(The prospects developing is another conversation.)

God curse us, everyone.

This does seem like a curse.

Adams wanting to cram all of his high picks into the farm team all at once is one of the many dubious decisions. There is no room for players to grow into other roles. It’s not like we’re seeing somebody emerge down there as a checking line or physical player because they’ve got most of the lineup chock full of first and second rounders upfront. There’s no opportunity for found money, no opportunity for somebody to step in or step up even at the farm level. And it also means that if all of those pics are slightly stunted, it’s going to create a blockage and they won’t be getting comparable value back down the line and the crust of the wave will be in the middle of this idiocy.
