Hawks have a lot of defensemen in the pipeline and could potentially add Matthew Schaefer this draft. Would be looking for a forward with top 6 upside of similar age/draft pedigree. Who are some players/teams that would make the most sense for a trade?

Easton Cowan.

Feel like the Leafs could use another offensive-oriented Dman in their system as Reilly just isn't cutting it anymore.

Schaefer and Misa are almost on par with each other at the top of the draft, with Hagens and Martone right there too. Sharks will almost certainly take Schaefer if they have the option since their prospect pool is stacked with offensive forwards already. If Chicago picks ahead of them they should definitely take Misa IMO. As good as Schaefer is, Levshunov already looks legitimate and Korchinski isn't returning a prospect like Misa.

I know rule of thumb is draft BPA, but when they are that close take what your team needs most. Only scenario where Chicago might take Schaefer is if a 3rd team wins #1 and takes Misa and then Chicago wins #2.

This is a tough one for me. I think Schaefer is far and away the only real impact player in that draft. He can be a real difference maker. Misa / Hagens of a similar tier to Cooley IMO.

If i am Chi, i don't pass up on the guy who has franchise potential.

I really don't see why it'd make sense for the Hawks to deal Korchinski. He's been kinda bounced around and jangled by the dumpster fire Blackhawks situation that rushed him too far, too fast...but he's still a very high upside defenceman who can skate for days. They may have some quantity in the pipeline, but Korchinski is still absolutely near the top-end of what they have in terms of "quality". And...as mentioned above, they're an absolute wreck right now and need talent in the worst way at pretty much every spot in the lineup, and defense particularly.

Not really sure if there's any teams that would trade a fwd with similar age unless they were some sort of reclamation project, in which that's really risky for Chicago to do.

Obviously Gauthier got traded, so I guess it would have to be a situation like that.

You haven't watched enough Misa play yet. I've seen him live a few times and his 2-way game is quite something. I think he could step into the NHL the same way Celebrini did.

as of right now he's probably 4th on their organizational depth chart behind Vlasic, Levshunov and Rinzel...if the Hawks see Schaefer as the BPA at 1OA then potentially they take him and look to move Korchinski for a young forward...to your point they definitely rushed him to the NHL last year

I feel like every year we talk about another Hawks bust prospect losing their spot because they're near last place and could potentially get first overall again.

It's almost like the Chicago brass doesn't know what they're doing.

If Hawks aren't careful, they will become the Sabres of the West. I never liked Bedard's game. I see him more as a small winger with a great shot than a responsible dynamic C. He's Michkov with better playmaking. Way overrated IMO.

he might very well turn out to be a Kane type winger, which is fine, still a very valuable piece to have

If we're talking big-picture I'd take Lev and Vlasic over Korch easily, and probably Rinzel too. Then there's guys that are close too like Del Mastro, Kaiser, Allan. If they do indeed land Schaefer added on top of all of that...IMO it would be foolish to not consider moving Korch at that point for a young forward with similar value. I think you're mistaking defenseman for forwards. The Hawks are loaded with young promising Dman(even without Korchinski in the picture), so the "absolute wreck in need of talent in the worst way, particulary on defense" comment doesn't really make sense. Had you said "forward", then maybe I'd agree.

One of the big things in this, is just how much longer defencemen typically take to "arrive" at the NHL level. Forwards...we see guys step right in at 18, 19, 20 and make a huge impact. Defencemen...it's typically later. It takes time. So as with the Hawks "dynasty" era...you need to have your Keith and Seabrook and others in the pipeline and working their way up earlier than your Kane and Toews, in theory.

It will be incredible if the Hawks end up with Levshunov and Misa instead of Demidov and Schaefer (two clearly better players) because of drafting for need - first we need a D, and then the next year oops we need a F.

It’s almost like you don’t even know who the Chicago brass are and should open your ears instead of your mouth.

He’s 20, and had a good year developing in the ahl. His ceiling has not changed, but if he ends up a good 2nd pairing guy that’s a win, not a bust.
I don’t believe I said good 2nd pairing guy.

He’s not panning out. It happens. Lots of guys don’t.
