0% chance he'd be sent to the AHL. He's significantly better than a replacement level player.

We save $375k of cap space if we waive Krug and play Perunovich. I am not convinced Krug would be much better than Perunovich in the same role. We shelter the hell out of Krug and give him all the offensive opportunities. Perunovich is awful defensively, but so is Krug. PErunovich is a better skater and should be a good offensive/PP guy. On defense, he can stand in front of the new slowly turning in circles while getting back doored all game just like Krug. I don't see how we are much worse. I'd threaten it if I am Armstrong, and I'd follow through.

Blues fans should probably be happy this fell through. Hayes doesn’t move the needle and Sanheim’s contract is so damn long and his play has been incredibly uneven from year to year. He was a disaster this last season. He’s better than that but not “I am signing up 8 years of this” better.

Obviously circumventing a players trade protection is a great way to get free agents to avoid your team like the plague, if the league even allowed it.

You can look at it that way. Or you can look at it as they signed a contract with a NTC. That gives them the right to try and chose a destination that they'd prefer versus having no control. It doesn't give them full control of their destiny. The issue at hand here is that I don't think Krug gets claimed if he goes through waivers. Would he rather be in the AHL, or would he rather be on the Flyers? Flyers may not be in a winning mode, but they sure as heck provide a better experience for the players than an AHL team would, and it's alot easier to show your worth to a competitive team in the NHL versus the AHL.

It seems more of a preventative measure for a player that still holds value, not for a player that is bordering a situation where there's no gaurantee that a team would take on his contract. I wish Krug nothing but the best as a human and he plays the game hard. But the Blues are better off without him given that they have Perunovich who has almost exactly the same skillset. And not the overall group or cap space to support a specialist at 6.5m per season.

I don’t think you can trade him once he is claimed off waivers. At least not for a year anyway. I don’t think Sanheim gets traded before Saturday anyway.

A team can trade a claimed player......but that team needs to exposed the claimed player to waivers again.

he must first get cleared by any other team who filed a claim and the original team that waived him before a trade could be made

i don’t think he needs to clear waivers league wide again.

So does the same hold true for Bedard? He hasn't faced NHL competition yet.
Sure. He could bust bigtime. He could get injured once and his career can totally go down hard. We've seen potential get robbed in various ways from folks or touted prospects totally throw a rod. It does happen. Anything is entirely possible; you just don't hope for it. That's the worst kind of karma.

Drafted by the Habs at #1. Scored the winning goal in the Monday Night Miracle. Died of cancer and is remembered in many, many ways.

I have The Fourteen Fund logo airbrushed on the back of my goalie mask. For many Blues fans like myself, he means a lot more than he ever accomplished. Until the Cup, the Monday Night Miracle was really symbolic even though we ended up losing that series to the Flames,

Some people are meant to be symbols of other things. As a player, yeah, huge let down. As a Blue, he lives forever. Just goes to show some things aren't about stats and numbers.

Some folks rise above all of that, whether they want to or not.

Savard loomed large in Canada, but he rose above all that. Awesome guy and player. Tons of pressure on these kids.

Two ways of looking at it really. Hayes at ~50% is an amazing piece to have. He's not that bad at full salary, so half is great. Sanheim had a bad year last year but he had his best year the year before. He wouldn't be the first person to return to form when Torts isn't in charge.

so far Perunovich has only shown he can suffer an injury every season

And when nobody picks him up and he clears waivers then what ?

Did you read the post? The Flyers would be picking him up.

They could but I doubt either wants to do business like that. Krug has been in the league for a long time, is a winner, and respected person/player. That wouldn't be a good look for either organization and while they wouldn't have a leg to stand on I'm sure the NHLPA would cause a stink about it too.

I thought that being able to do this was 100% the reason why a NMC is a much bigger deal than a NTC. With a NTC a team can't just trade you if you're good, but they do have options to get rid of you if your a massive cap dump. I'm not sure why the NHLPA would have any issue with that at all. It's exactly why they have the 2 different things.

I'd get the point about not looking good for the organization.

Kind of crazy an all-star at 50% for another 3 years is getting traded for a bag of pucks.

Thanks fatboy Trotz for killing the market.
