Petry has a NMC. I don't think he'll waive it and I don't think Bergevin will ask him to waive it.

There's saying the Rags like Hayes and then there's defending that proposal. The Jackets might like Atkinson, would that make them refuse a deal of Atkinson + Clarkson for a #2-3 Dman signed long term at a good rate?

That's a bad example that does not compare as well as you might hope; with that particular proposal, I'd say "yes, no question" The reasons are as follows:
1) Clarkson is on LTIR for the foreseeable future and so does not affect our cap (EDIT: in a practical sense, that is), our on-ice play, or our expansion draft status. We could end up actually adding cap in such a deal rather than shedding it.
2) Atkinson is on an even hotter streak than Hayes and is an integral part of that best-in-the-league power play of ours.
3) We have absolutely no needs on the blueline, and whoever we pick up would end up crowded out and vulnerable in the expansion draft (unlike with that Girardi deal, where Petry is potentially protectable). We'd have to immediately trade for an Atkinson replacement, and we'd almost certainly not get anyone as good overall or playing as well or as favored in the locker room and by the coach.

Also, I think Petry is more of a #3-4 than a #2-3 (i.e. I wouldn't put him on a top pairing under any circumstance short of injury replacement, but I wouldn't mind him carrying the second pairing), but that's just getting nitpicky.

Perhaps it would be better if I clarified that I think it's moderately distasteful for the Rangers and hideously g-dawful for the Habs. I didn't meant to make it sound like it'd be equally distasteful for both in my initial reply (goodness no), but I can see how some folks might interpret it that way. (And the "it's creative" was less a "this is a good original idea" and more "well, at least you tried to think outside of the box...").

its clear u dislike the habs.

Not at all. I do dislike some of the common themes that pop up in Habs proposals of late, but this doesn't have any examples of same. Such accusations aren't a first for me, tho; there were a few years when plenty of Oil fans were convinced I absolutely despised them, too. :)

Not sure who you're talking about here.

Hayes is not worth Petry come on. Maybe he is but sure as **** not with Girardi attached to him. Hayes + Girardi is worth about a 6th rounder

Rangers do this without thinking twice then sign Slepyshev and don't miss a beat at center.

I would never ever give up Hayes if the main piece coming back is Jeff Petry, even if it means getting rid of Girardi.

The Rangers will buyout Girardi before they attach a piece like Hayes to get him off the books.

Agreed, Hayes is one of a few guys the Rangers will not consider moving without massive overpayment. I think he is instrumental in helping with the re signing Vesey' next contract as well.

Regarding what Bern's said, Stepan is the logical guy out if the Rangers are looking to sign a puck moving RHD before the deadline. He has a 6 million dollar salary and a NMC that kicks in next offseason. I'm not sure it will happen but he is the guy the will likely re evaluate because of the NMC.

I think the joke here is adding Girardi, not the difference between Hayes and Petry (depending on which side you value more)
