Kevin Bieksa - what's the fascination?

Let me premise this by saying that I am a Canucks fan and did like some elements of Bieksa's game many MANY years ago. That said, I have never understood the whole media love in with this guy? Is he really that funny and engaging? Every single time I see him lately he's carrying on with the same "I'm awesome and you suck" schtick. Sportsnet is bringing him in for the trade deadline and we had to sit through him again on After Hours this year and listen to him while he was at the all star game.

I find the guy's entire act tiresome and sometimes cringeworthy. Am I the only one?

I am tired of him. Maybe that's just because I have seen too much of him. I'll tell you though, if he becomes a regular in the media circles here, he needs to drop the standard schtick he has going where he runs the interviewer into the ground and props up himself as being awesome. It's very tired.

Gotta say, Bieksa is one of the friendliest hockey players I’ve met. My buddy and I ran into him the day of a playoff game, were just going to say a quick hello and he chatted with us for 5 or 10 minutes.

I don’t hate the guy, I just always found him to be a bit of a geek. Watching him in the cup final try to get at guys like Bergeron and Krejci and then absolutely shit himself when Lucic or Thornton were out there. He’s a huge spotpicker.

Him and Kesler both had some pretty funny interview moments over the years. I believe it was also Bieksa who did the "shots shots shots" interview as well.

Bieksa seems like a great team mate and locker room guy as well as being relatively knowledgeable. The time he took the opening draw for the rookie so he didn't get immediately smashed by the Flames goons shows the kind of guy he is.

Bieksa, physically wasn't built to play the way he ideally wanted to play. He's 6'1 200 lbs.

Who were the biggest guys that those guys fought? They are heavyweights, but you had the McGrattons, Boogaard, Grimson, etc. who were super heavy weights. Have to be careful if you're moving up in weight class. Rick Rypien, fought way above his weight class, but then again, there were not many fighters at his size.

So your argument is that he’s a spot picker because he wouldn’t fight heavyweights? Makes sense. Lucic was an animal back then, I don’t really blame Bieksa. Hardly a spot picker though
