Instead of creating a new thread on this....because there have been thousands....I just want to again point out how brilliant Brian Burke was. That is all.

Kessel and Jvr both get hat tricks vs Canada. Canada wins 7-6.

I just watched the full game replay between USA vs. Slovakia on CBC.ca. Kessel and JVR were fantastic, especially Phil - this is probably the fastest I've ever seen Kessel skate and his game really is more effective on a bigger ice surface.

One thing though, JVR was only credited with 2 assists when he should of gotten a third on the Backes goal. I know the IIHF are more strict in terms of awarding assists though.

It's kind of funny that after I saw the 7th US goal and had to head out nothing else happened in the game . I pretty much saved Slovakia from further humiliation.

I definitely think the US is a dangerous contender to take the whole thing. A lot of guys including Kessel are just way better than they were in Vancouver. Obviously rosters change, but they do have some serious weapons.

Of course anyone really can come out on top with the great talent in the various countries.

I'm going to be pulling for Canada to win it all, but think I'll enjoy watching the US games more just because of the Leaf factor.

You would think on an Olympic stage they would actually watch or re-watch a play and get the scoring right.

They do this at every international event, though. JVR should have had the primary assist, while Kessel had the secondary apple.

You kind of have to take international scoring with a grain of salt. They are wrong half the time and they never change their call. It really muddles the scoring leaders by the end of the tournament

I feel like US team goes together a lot better than team Canada. Basically everyone on Canada is the go too guy on their team, and now in this tournament theyre not so they dont really know what to do. They don't have that problem with the US team.

Man JVR's passing is so ****in underrated. His passes on 2on1s are honestly some of the best in the league. The goal he set Kessel up for was just another example of it, he rarely misses those, and this saucer passes are always flat and touch the ice right before it reaches his target. Hes been doing it all year.

Guys,

I've watched all the men's games so far, and I can safely say that the US team absolutely frightens me. Kessel and JVR look magical out there. I find myself getting so excited watching them get scoring chances and seeing them score. I know that the fist games need to be taken with a grain of salt, but of all the performances - the US has looked the most deadly in my opinion.

Right now, this is how I see it..

1. US
2. Sweden
3. Russia/Canada

That's just based on the the performances from their first games. Canada is going to really need to step it up in terms of chemistry and work ethic. We need to get Duchene on that top line with Crosby.

When it comes down to it, if the Canadians get knocked out, I want the US to win it all and win it in a dominating fashion - with Kessel as the MVP. Imagine how much that would silence all the haters on HF boards... and imagine the momentum JVR and Kessel would get from being Gold medalists.

I'm pumped!

JT is going to utilized as winger people Babcock already told JT that's the possibility.

All-star team... well I mean Canada does have the deepest roster and everyone who's even in the top 20-30 players are all star calibre players.

The list of the next 10 names are all star calibre players. To say that Canada is built like an all-star team is false. It was built from chemistry as you can tell from the lines pairings.

Kessel and JVR was expected to perform insanely well together because of chemistry. This is exactly what Canada is hoping for with our line selections too but it's probably going to take a bit of time to really get the team gellin'

I was hoping Kule would be given a more offensive role but it seems like he's on the 3rd/4th line rather than with Malkin and Ovie

Where did you find the full replay on CBC.ca? Can't find it anywhere on the site.

*edit* ok i found it but none of the videos on CBC.ca actually have any links to play... tried on multiple browsers.

Agreed.

He clearly gets a piece of the puck before it goes in.
It should be Backes' goal with JvR primary assist and Kessel secondary.

Who the hell approved USA and Slovakia having the exact same jersey? Difficult to watch.

My bold prediction. When the games matter most this becomes a one game knockout
tournament. You can make the medal round and lose one game and not win gold.

usa gold
sweden silver
finland bronze

canada and russia dont medal

usa - best goalies in tournament. top two (Quick,Miller) both capable of being outshot badly and still win games.

sweden- all around good team with another goalie capable of stealing the one game you need.(lundquist)

Finland - Not as good as any of the other top four but agoing Rask in net.

IMO Price,Luongo,Smith way below the other teams goalies in terms of being
able to steal a game.

Sweden just lost Zetterberg, I honestly don't see them making it to the gold medal game, it will be 2 of Russia, Canada, USA IMO.

Did you say Rask today? He lost the net, Lehtonen could be in the rest of the tourney.
