He talk about that pep talk in the podcast. Told him they didn’t draft him to be the next Jack Hughes. You have a skills set Hughes will never have and Hughes avec things Slaf will never have, so don’t try to play like him

Yeah that makes sense.. I don't think Hughes told him they drafted the wrong guy lol. Slaf still needs that message, he needs to use his physical gifts or he risks being a Latendresse.

He said that if he’s trying to play like Hughes, they should have draft someone else, play like you can with your skills set. That’s maybe why someone miss the point

hope the contract is not a mistake

fat tony says KH said on the french show with snake " say KH pulled him aside" we drafted the wrong guy, we did not draft you to be hughes.

is this correct??
in the interview, KH do say that he spoke to Slaf and that as part of the discussion, he explain that MTL expectation when drafting him wasn't that he would become Jack Hughes, and that as such he shouldnT try to play like him. KH added that if Slaf wants to play like Hughes, then they didn't draft the good guy.

This was part of the development segment, in short, he was telling Slaf to play to his strength, and that the team didn't want or need him to be something else then what he had shown before.

I like that they want him to be a power forward, that’s great

I don’t like how there isn’t really a noticeable difference in his game from the time he was pulled aside until now. He’s playing on the top line and looks fine, but he hasn’t upped the physicality or changed his style of play to match his strengths, yet at least.

in the sense that he can bring solid defensive play under pressure.

They asked him a few time to define what type of player he wanted Reinbacher to be, he never answer the question directly other then to say that similar to Carrier, he'll be good on under pressure and on transition. When on to speak to his view about lack of physical play in their zone vs not managing the pressure and exiting fast.
Thanks, not the most exciting comparison though.

The expectation is that Reinbacher will be able to matchup against top lines. Carrier is a solid #5 maybe a decent #4 but you wouldn’t expect him to be solid under pressure vs the best opposition

Unless the comparison was strictly that having more NHL quality defensemen will help the team, in which case I agree

Because it wasn’t the goal of the interview. Those questions or for typical Press conference. They wanted to do a different interview on things we don’t know and are not talk about in PC.
Not to mention, he will not show his hand prior to the trade deadline......we are currently in no mans land eh...........6 pts out of the playoggs, and 6 pts out of last place in the east.........crazy how close the east is....

Not one question about the current state in a 30 minute interview?

“We are working hard on improving this team long term, it’s a learning process for everyone, we won’t sacrifice long term for short term gains”

That is indeed cause for concerns.

So let me get this straight. Slafkovsky has the skills to dangle, shoot and pass but they want him GRINDING instead?

Gtfo therrien.

When is he going to be allowed to learn to make those moves in the NHL? We’ve all seen him do it. 1st overall picks should
Not be moulded into grinders: he’s got skills; he can skate and agile and has the potential to be an elite offensive forward. Why tell him not to test those things?

Hughes said he told Slafkovsky:

“we didn’t draft you to be Jack Hughes, he does things you’ll never do, and you do things Jack Hughes will never do, we drafted you to be Slaf, so if you continue to play like Jack Hughes we drafted the wrong guy”

He is trying to inspire the kid to just be himself.....and Slaf seems to be lacking confidence as he was last year..........he needs to get on a roll.
As for the grinding, the kid is big and can seperate others from the puck, this is the type of game they need him to play......the goals and assists will come boys.

Do you think Slaf cares what Hughes thinks?

How much can a kid with a guaranteed 50 mil really care about his boss who can’t fire him?

he also said that you have to pay attention how you deliver the message, example is that Slaf being an offensive guy with skills, he doesnt really want to get told to go hit guys and be a goon out there, but hes gonna do it naturally if you tell him to go play with pace and be agressive

Both these things are true, according to Kent.

1- Habs would’ve taken Brindley and Fowler.
2- Had Colorado not traded for Colton, Colorado indeed would’ve picked Fowler with said pick.
That makes me think Cameron Schmidt will be one of our first round picks this summer. If he was going to burn a first on Brindley. Maybe Hughes wants a team of talented smurfs.

He's missing the drive to be great, no drive, no success.

Good point; after their first rounder they won’t shy from talent, however Mesar and Brindley aren’t all that good with hindsight.
