Kenny Albert to become new permanent voice of NYR

It's a blessing he sounds so much like his father who called so many iconic NBA games. He's got a great voice and I hope he becomes part of the next Eddie O and Doc for national broadcasts and playoff games.

His dad called many seasons of NYR hockey too.

I don’t understand why Kenny Albert is such a highly rated announcer by so many fans. Is it just because he has a unique voice similar to his father’s?

No matter how big the moment, it never sounds like he’s *actually* excited about it. Maybe NY fans hear differently when he calls a local broadcast. I find his call beyond bland during national games.

Will Kenny Albert still be doing NFL this upcoming season? Sure hope so, he's great.

It doesn't sound to me like he's stepping back from his other commitments, which is why there was a point made to say that Faust will be the guy when Kenny isn't available. For years, MSG has used John Giannone when Sam couldn't go. Giannone is the between the glass guy and the host of the intermission reports for the Rangers and he's not very good at play-by-play. Basically, he's just been a stopgap because there was rarely a need for someone. In my opinion, the only reason to announce an official fill-in guy is if Kenny will have less availability than Sam did.

Kenny already worked for the Rangers and is more or less moving from radio to tv.

I'm sure he'll be doing the NFL and national NHL games that he was doing anyway.

Faust will do tv when he's away and local radio guy Don La Greca will probably fill in for Faust.
