Hiring Pelley is all smoke and mirrors to make us poor long suffering fans think that some great saviour is going to make things better. A way to push the can another year down the road while he takes a year to evaluate (lol) the organization

To be fair to him, he's here to oversee business ops not hockey Ops. I always felt it was strange that so many here expected him to personally order Shanny/Tre to do anything hockey ops related like make trades

People don’t understand so much of what goes on. The CEOs role of a multi billion dollar company is just another example.

That’s true but I was hoping he would be the “left hand of God” and pass judgment on Shanny and send his a$$ to the fiery pit

Oh enlighten us great one. What is his role then.
If it’s not so much about hockey ops why was he at the presser making hockey claims

Pelley is a dweeb.

Shanahan’s time is over, but let’s not pretend that he wasn’t one of the best things to happen to this organization. It’s night and day from Ferguson/Peddie and Fletcher 2.0/Burke/Nonis. He’s run his course but he really turned everything around. Then yes, he squandered what he created but he deserves a ton of appreciation.

This is a fair statement.

Shanny did everything right and launched the Leafs to new heights. Then he did everything wrong and sewered the gains. More or less net neutral but you need better than that. Pretty sure he's already done here, wish him the best.

I agree his time has come. But net neutral?

You think we’re skating into this year with this?:

Is that real?

Yes. I tried to use a milder picture. There's also this one. For some reason I can't picture this man in the trenches blasting a couple of Germans and saving his countrymen. Maybe when he takes his glasses off he can shoot lasers out of his eyes.

But Shanny didn't create AM, MM and Willie and thats why they are as competitive as they are. The one thing he did do was allow the tank but that really wasn't a move that required genius, just being passive. And is that something another Prez would not have been able to do? I think he was a more active factor in the last 5 years of treading water than being an architect of their success.

When you tank for 5 years in a row and draft top 10 picks including a generational talent in Matthews it makes you look like a genius. The only problem is they screwed up the cap situation by overpaying RFA’s and one UFA in Tavares. For several years this team couldn’t find a decent goaltender or help for Rielly because of the flat cap. That’s on management.

Order was:

(1) don’t lock up the core

(1.5) hire newbie GM.

(2) acquire UFA Tavares.

(3) newbie GM was allowed to overpay RFAs.

Shanny must go.
Newbie GM signed Tavares.

Newbie GM signed Tavares.
Obviously hiring a newbie GM to play money puck with an original six franchise was never going to end well.

So far, not impressed but I hear he runs a great golf tour.
That's probably one of the things that saved Shanny's bacon for this season. Pelley may be a financial whiz but he isn't from the NHL so immediately taking the nuclear option was never likely to happen. He needs to learn the lay of the land so to speak, including possible replacement options. All he knows coming in is that the organization is a wrecking ball in the regular season and they make tons of money. Plus whatever the board decided to fill him in on, keeping in mind Shanahan is their creature so they aren't going to lead with " he's incompetent but his excuses sound so believable".

I think Tre and BS both have to make big things happen this year. Treliving is Shanny's hire so they might be riding the same rail out of town. The new guy being an outside resets the clock but only for a year.
