Which pair will ultimately have more combined career value?

Keith and Karlsson have a combined 5 Norrises. Hughes and Makar have two thus far, although that number should increase.

Will Q. Hughes and Makar, once they've retired, be higher on the all-time list than the older two?

Hughes Makar I would guess.

Keith was a stud for a few years and Karlsson has a few defenceman Art Ross trophies, but Makar is really something special and Hughes is looking good so I think ultimately it is then.

Went with the young guys. I could see both of them ending up better than the other 2, but Makar in particular seems very likely.

It's a high bar - but they're both off to fantastic starts to theirn careers.

Also worth noting that they are already tied in combined Conn Smyth trophies at one.

I am leaning toward the younger two but I’m undecided.

I’m not sure they will be higher on an all time list though. I just think they are more well rounded than karlsson.

Kieth is easily the best defensively of the group and 1D’d the Hawks to 3 Cups and 2 WCF appearances. He had 2 Norris trophies was considered a top 3 Dman for over half a decade.

Karlsson’s offense was so amazing he won 3 Norris trophies despite his pretty bad defense. His 2017 run was phenomenal as well.

Not sure why this is such a blowout especially with Q. Hughes being the clear cut weakest of the bunch.

Yea Hughes/Makar so tempting but I like the EK/DK combo a bit better. Keith will play shutdown D and EK can hog the puck on offence all he likes.

That’s true but Keith could have 3 Conn Smythes and no one would bat an eye. He probably should.

Recency bias. Karlsson is washed now and Keith is long gone. I picked them too.

Is he though? He is better defensively than both Makar and Karlsson .

I went with Keith and Karlsson. Keith is and will always be underrated compared to his peers.

I'm baffled this is a blowout....Prime King Karl before the achilles cut was a problem. And Keith an absolute horse for years in the playoffs. I can see the arguments for Makar and Hughes but it's so lopsided I was surprised

I'm always surprised that people don't understand the idea that these sort of polls are either/or. They're a black/white dichotomy. They're not a measure of how big the "gap" is. 1% better still shows up as "better" here.

No kidding, if you run a poll of McDavid vs MacKinnon it's 99-1 in favour of McDavid, that doesn't mean MacKinnon is 98% worse than McDavid.

Splitting hairs really here, all elite defensemen that were/are the best of their generations.

So I'd take the Keith/Karlsson duo strictly because prime Karlsson was the most fun entertaining defenseman I've ever watched, so if you want to talk about "value", well Karlsson was a player that put asses in seats. You bought Senators tickets to watch Karlsson play, can't get much more valuable for a franchise than that.

I don’t blame anyone voting for Makar/Hughes. It could be recency bias or it could be their legitimate opinion.

The discrepancy is pretty wild though. The lopsided results suggest a very clear cut opinion and to be honest I think the results should be flipped if anything.

That's the thing about this result that people aren't getting.

It doesn't mean it's a case of ANIEC. It just means that the majority of people think one pair is at least 1% better. There might very well be 98% of voters for one option who thing it's just in by a hair. But this is the way that represents.

Statistics and stuff. :dunno:
