Asked Bard to tell me why keith jones is and isnt an ideal candidate for president of a hockey team:

Why:

  • Experience: Jones has a wealth of experience in the hockey world, both as a player and as a broadcaster. He played 15 seasons in the NHL, including stops with the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He also served as an assistant coach with the Flyers and the Penguins.
  • Knowledge: Jones has a deep understanding of the game of hockey. He understands what it takes to be a successful player, coach, and broadcaster. He also has a deep understanding of the business side of hockey.
  • Leadership: Jones is a respected figure in the hockey world and he is known for his intelligence, work ethic, and passion for the game. He is an ideal leader for a hockey team.
  • Communication: Jones is an excellent communicator. He is able to communicate effectively with players, coaches, staff, and the media.
  • Decision-making: Jones is a good decision-maker. He is able to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Interpersonal skills: Jones has excellent interpersonal skills. He is able to build relationships with players, coaches, staff, and the media.
Why Not..
  • Lack of experience in management: Jones has no experience in management at the NHL level. He has only ever worked as a player, coach, and broadcaster. This lack of experience could be a disadvantage in a role that requires a strong understanding of the business side of hockey.
  • Age: Jones is 55 years old. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is something to consider when hiring a president of a hockey team. A younger candidate may have more energy and be more willing to take risks.
  • Personality: Jones is known for his laid-back personality. This could be seen as a positive or a negative. Some people might see it as a sign that he is not a strong enough leader. Others might see it as a sign that he is a good communicator and that he can build relationships with players and staff.

Oh this should be good. Like train wreck/car wreck you can't look away from good. I'm hopeful to hear about fist fights with the senior advisors and the VP of hockey operations.
But who is going to be disagreeing? Jones is in perfect lockstep with the lineup decisions Tortorella is making; more grit, more "accountability" (for some), harder to play against, etc. It is also very unlikely that Jones would have anything contrary to say about the consultants who have kept this wagon hitched to the BSB ox for decades. Brière is the only possible avenue of bringing 21st century skills to this team and the prospects of it happening are diminishing with every move they make.

Give me ONE example of a hockey personnel related decision Jones has made in his vast experience running hockey teams. Huh? What was that? Oh, not applicable.

At least Briere tried to gain some GM experience in the ECHL.

Should be no problem. Plan the parade ..... for 2035 after the next Pres/GM combo replaces these two.
