Drafting 9th = Getting a prospect and waiting 2-3 years and he may not materialize into much.

Trading 9th for a cost controlled RFA/Player under 25 = Years of control and getting a player needed that fits the roster now.

Pros and cons but this will be year 15 of the drought.

I already know what I would do.

Trashing the 9th pick as a wait and see for 3 years (totally true), but then the next line we are able to trade that risky unmaterialized asset for a cost controlled RFA player under 25? I mean, who is doing that?

"I mean who is doing that"

Every single team that makes the playoffs looking for a rental for starters

Perhaps look at the history of trades over the last 10 years and it will help you with your questions. Now that we have AI maybe AI can help you too?

Generally speaking thats why rebuilding teams value the 1sts while playoffs teams dont.

I can give you some links to trades if you like where 1st round picks are moved for players. Its not hard to find, TSN? NHL.COM?

Im talking about the opposite. And what you are referring to happens at the deadline and it's for rentals that are on expring contracts, not cost controlled RFA's. Who is giving up the cost controlled player for the 9th OA pick that's highly uncertain to make the show? Most GM's would get fired..

Do you really need me to explain to you the way it works? Try doing some research about players who were traded and why.

If you are asking me to educate you I can PM you so its doesn't take up pages of stuff other posters already know.

Imagine for a moment we are St. Louis. And we take our 1st round pick and a prospect + 2 cap dumps for a top center who wins the Stanley cup and is MVP.

I mean who does that? Buffalo.

Holy f***, you’ve become a complete dick in the last couple of months. This board is already dying. There’s no need to try to push 1/37 current posters away. We’re all frustrated with this iteration of the Sabres. There’s no need to take it out on other posters though
