Drury most definitely has to go. Free agents aren’t going to sign here after what he did to Trouba and Goodrow. Like the contracts or not what he did doesn’t sit well with the players. Guys don’t wanna play for a GM that pulls shit like that.

Im sorry, this is horse shit.

This team's season got derailed the second Laviolette decided to force fishbowl Lindgren into the top 4. They were humming and actually were playing pretty well until he did that and it threw off the balance of everything else. Don't give a f*** what their record was when the memo went out, their level of play had already beyond dipped and a correction was in the middle of occurring.

If you want to look at a second time it happened, it was when Lavi threw Kreider back into the lineup post TDL.

I think theres a lot of blame to toss at Drury's feet but "GM MEAN!" is not one of them. Tampa Bay walked away from Stamkos who had all of the love and street cred in the Lightning locker room. The old guard was not happy that they didn't even entertain the thought of a contract extension with their former captain and guy who they battled with for years (over a decade in some cases.)

They got over it.

Even if the memo pissed people off, they did have the option of playing f***ing better and making the entire thing a moot point instead of sulking and really just proving the GM right.
The Flyers lost 11 out of their final 12 games under Torts. Torts leaves and they win 3 straight. You probably don’t buy into the “COACH MEAN” theory either.

This team is really trying harder than it ever has to lose me as a fan for good.

Firing Drury should be a no-brainer. If I performed at my job the way he has at his, I'd lose my job and be pushed down a flight of stairs by hired goons on my way out of the building.
Rumor has it that Sam is going to lead a chant of “Drury must go” during the 3rd period of their final home game, so stick around a while longer.

Don't we say this all the time? They weren't going to sign here because Redden was sent down to Hartford, they weren't going to sign because Gomez was traded just 2 years after signing his deal.
Yet they keep signing here.
And pending UFA Shesterkin signed here, as did pending UFA Borgen.

It is entirely possible that all players dislike Drury enough to say 'no' (and there's players who choose to sign elsewhere every season), but it seems unlikely that in a closed market everyone is going stop considering the Rangers

So, you agree that Coach and Management decisions can and do have a substantial effect on how players perform on the ice. It’s interesting to note there are country clubs in Philadelphia as well.
yes with coaches because they're actually dealing with the team day to day.

I said as much earlier, Coaching matters so I don't know what you're getting at.

The GM stuff is nonsense. Look at Tampa.

wasnt sold on firing drury at the start of the year but at this point im ready to move on
I have no problem with moving on from Drury, but I can't imagine why we'd really be getting anyone that is fundamentally different. There's no mechanism in the organisation as it stands that would allow us to identify what a 'suitable' replacement actually looks like.
Sather-Gorton-Drury was basically 'next man up' without a lot of thought being involved at any stage

I'm keeping Drury because I'm not playing with a random option right now. We currently do not know who would be interested, because this is not going to be a rookie GM, so I'd much rather keep him.

If you don't want him in charge of a rebuild, you still keep him to tear it down because he has shown he will do just that. He's already pissed everyone off, let him move Mika and Kreider. Let a new GM start fresh.

Realistically this will not be a full tear down. It's going to be a retool year and there is always going to be the 97 talk as long as he isn't signed. He might love Edmonton, but it's starting to trend south for them.

Besides that, I trust he'll make the difficult moves with breaking a core. A new GM being tasked that right away is tough work.

Gotta fire Lavi. He’s lost the locker room. Fire pizza bitch too. I get he stepped in here with some awful contracts he didn’t create . But he’s missed on so many of his shots.

Buch trade. Goodrow. Nemeth signing + then trade. My concern with firing him is his replacement. Dolan doesn’t know hockey. He trusted Sather, who molded Drury. Now that Sathers gone, who the f*** does Dolan see as a replacement for Colony bitch? Terrifying. I’m afraid.

Tampa is totally incomparable.

They didn’t sign an out of contract, injury prone player. We obviously weren’t having these conversations if someone’s contract expired and we didn’t sign him.

Different to dishonouring contract clauses (or at least exploiting) by threatening him with waivers if he doesn’t leave or sending out emails about how a guy who just carried you through game 6 v the hurricanes and is your longest serving player and one of your best big game performers isn’t wanted.

That does and very clearly did have an impact.

Applying the why to Tampa’s decision making is irrelevant. They chose to move on from a very popular player and the current locker room was not happy about it. Drury moved on from players who were much worse and less established.

Threatening waivers happened in Tampa too btw (see:McDonagh, who they ended up bringing back.)

Players get traded and leave all the time. Teams usually get over it. Tampa did, Rangers did not.

Kreider had the option to play better. He’s responded with the worst full season of his career and has looked like he doesnt give a single f*** about it.

Way to show management that you want to
Stay.

The team isn’t good enough and has never been good enough. The primary culprit is the lack of development of Lafreniere and Kakko, and, to a lesser extent, the fact that Andersson, Chytil and Kravtsov never turned into even middle six pieces.

You can’t swing and miss on five, six high first round picks. The Rangers failed as an organization on this rebuild and there’s no other way to put it.

They need a GM who can build from scratch and then he needs to come here with a directive to do that.

I agree with most of this but I think a retool right now is probably the proper course. Move Kreider, see if you can move Mika, either resign Panarin or trade him, keeping Fox, Miller, Schneider and do whatever with the rest. Go from there. Retool with a purpose, don't just go swinging for whoever is the shiny new toy.

Don't forgot "repeatedly trading captains"....that's gotta count for something.

This is precious coming from the run Country Club Kreider out of town pitch fork brigade leader.
Precious as in we all have eyes and can see he doesn't give a shit on the ice? That’s not speculation that’s fact, whether your rosey glasses want you to see that or not.

7 games left of this loser.
