How does that make any sense, Boris? Trouba had a limited NTC clause. He didn't have a say if he was traded to certain teams. They didn't need his permission.
What happened was this:
Drury worked out a trade with Detroit, believing that the Red Wings would not be on Trouba's NT list as he is from Michigan, went to college there, and grew up a Red Wings fan. Drury or someone in MSG then leaked the trade prematurely to Uncle Larry, who reported it in the Post. Trouba got wind of it, got spooked and put Detroit on his NT list and threatened that he wouldn't report to any team, whether it was on his list or not. Drury was caught with his pants down and went into the season with a disgruntled, unwanted captain.
If he had waited a few days, the trade would've happened because it is VERY LIKELY that Trouba wouldn't have had Detroit on his NT list and even if he didn't want to report there, it would've been Detroit's headache as the trade would've happened.
