Dubas is probably upset. I think if Keefe was sitting long enough he would have let Sullivan go for him.

I hope New Jersey enjoys having their PP drop off for some reason going into the playoffs every year for the next 4 years...

I think the guy was a crap coach, didn't care for him, but him getting picked up immediately undeniably says that there are smart minds in hockey that value what he brings.

Nobody was out there hiring Babcock immediately after we fired him.

You've been consistently been told the below and you continue to parade this spiel to prop up dubas it ain't gonna fly....
Debating the goldfish is a hard thing to do man, good luck with that.

Good for him.

He got the job of a lifetime and one he didn’t really deserve but he grabbed his opportunity and ran with it.

Good on him for doing so.

Not a fan of him as a coach but he seems like a genuine and decent guy.

I wish him well and think his moving on is better for everyone, including him.

My thoughts exactly. +1
Good luck to him in Jersey. I think his players let him down here more than vice versa.
Yup. He deserves some blame for our playoff failures, but those deciding games he still coached better than most of our players played.

Be interesting to know how he defended his poor playoff numbers

He said his GM hired regular season darlings.

And they nodded in agreement.

P.S. Devils' cap allocation (no 11AAV+ forward btw.., or for that matter no 11AAV+ player at all on their roster)
If we didn't jump the gun and acquire Tavares, that's what would have happened to us.

16 and 34 hit the ground running and their eyes lit up when the Leafs gave Tavares $11m. The Sabres inking Eichel for $10m set the bar for Matthews and it has been cap hell since.

So many questionable coaching decisions made throughout his career with Toronto. The last couple weeks of his time w/ TOR even more questionable. I think NHL coaches can learn a lot from his mistakes, but if I were a GM I would stay clear.

it sucks how there was only compensation required to sign an under contract coach when we signed Babcock. (3rd round pick)

I don't think any coach can win with this roster construction and CAP issues .. but Keefer never had da D corp to win in playoffs here .. and Devils don't either .. but wish him well .. best for everyone he moved on

man if Leafs don't have at least one cup or continuous deep runs I would not offer Matthews 15AAV on his next deal. he can seek that from another team lol
Agree…….

That was simply pathetic. It wasn’t hard to know who was running the show…….the new and improved Muskoka 5
Berube had better get mgmt onboard with destroying the country club attitude, and get the punch the time clock mind set………

Good for him. I hope he succeeds in the regular season and then take an L against the Leafs at some point in the playoffs.
Frankly I hope he even does well in the playoffs. That would be the final proof that the core of the Leafs didn't have it. Reilly, JT and Mitchy couldn't get it done. Keefe failure was play by dollars to guys who didn't deserve the dollars.
If Jersey have paid the right guys, he could be more successful.

I think Babcock was quite happy to sit on his ass and take MLSE money for 5 years.

The first year after that ended. Columbus tried to hire him

We're about to see if Keefe was indeed a problem here. NJ is a talented young team who on paper should easily make the playoffs. If Keefe finds postseason success in NJ it'll be yet another indictment that this core doesn't have it.

Nobody wanted to pay him $6.25M a year.
