I'm sure he'll take a team friendly deal to stay with McDavid. Probably five years at 3.5

Career years in the same year you sign a contract extension is usually a recipe for disaster. Kassian is EDM’s Hyman, a fine player who does the right things, adds some grit and physicality to this team and appears to be able to play up and down the line. Unfortunately the facts are that he has never broken more than 30 points or 20 goals in his entire NHL career (he will likely do that this year) should be telling to his worth.

Personally I think if it’s around 4 years you are looking at 3.5 but if you do a deal similar to Brandon Tanev it’s 6x4. Player gets a marginal bump even though you are buying all UFA years because they get a guaranteed contract. Wouldn’t be a great deal but when he drops down onto the 3rd line in a few years it won’t be terrible.

Would like to see 3 years, 10 million; could live with 4 years, 15 mil. Will be disappointed if the average is 4 mil per or higher.

3.5ish...anything more let him walk and help put another team in camp hell...if he wasn't playing on the top line he wouldn't have those numbers

Kassian is exactly the type of player you do not want to overpay. Inflated stats thanks to McDavid. A normal 25pt player. If he gets anything north of 3M and 3years its a bad deal.

To be fair Hyman has never spent time lower in the lineup. They bring different things. I think Hyman is more skilled but obviously Kassian is a beast. Not a terrible comparison. They’re both complimentary wingers who bring unique elements to the top 6.

He’s a bottom six player having a good stretch of games. He’s not a first liner. Holland...lol.

Look I know that Hyman brings more to the table but you also have to look how Kassian has been deployed in the past. He wasn’t always on McJesus’s wing. He is a worker, can drop the gloves and will likely have a career year better than any of Hyman. The are comparable IMO.

Don’t think for a second Hyman and his agent aren’t eyeing the terms of this for his next deal.
