To be fair this management found Kapanen in the first place. Podkolzin too.
Bowman actually seems decent at finding bargain bin players. Samanski also looks like he could be a player even if only a 4C. And Emberson has rounded into a solid bottom pair RHD (I was quite critical of him his first year but he was steady this season).
Where Bowman really has struggled is the big moves.
Agreed, and this is why you simply can't give him a longish term contract. He seems to be a player that has to be constantly kept motivated and hungry to get anything out of him.The Frederic contract.Whoops, no we can't.
Kind of joking but Kapanen was surely one of our 3 best players in playoffs. He was quite motivated. Trouble is have we seen best ever Kapanen due to contract? We just don't know.
I really like the player but his play in playoffs and at other times this year was in his best looking ever type play. Maybe he gets it now. Maybe this is Kapanen moving forward. Just don't know. Injury history another concern.
none of the 3 smaller fwds we have play anything like stankoven, he plays like marchandIf they play hard though and are surrounded by larger aggressive players, it can work. Carolina is doing okay with Stankoven, Aho and Jarvis.
I don't know about Stankoven playing like Marchand, but regardless, it goes against your theory that you can't have 3 smaller forwards in the lineup.none of the 3 smaller fwds we have play anything like stankoven, he plays like marchand
That is a very good point. If your larger guys play like larger guys and can skate enough to take a regular shift you can have a bit more than your share of undersized in your lineup. If they play hard though and are surrounded by larger aggressive players, it can work. Carolina is doing okay with Stankoven, Aho and Jarvis.
Cool story. This is such a dumb take.
The NHL is full of skilled players on lower lines. 90% of the time it is about fit when deciding where they play. Its why Maroon feasted beside McDavid, and Frederic looked like a bum beside Connor but a stud beside Coyle. Fans get so wrapped up in labels, and expect players who they deem "top 6 F" to kill on lower lines, and then scratch their heads when they fail. We have the opposite with Kappy, a guy who everyone deems as a bottom 6 F, yet he can produce in the top 6 and support our stars. Thats a good thing!
We have a winger here who not only can chip in on lower lines, but is a seamless fit with one of our superstars. Lets not miss the forest for the trees by using a label from back when Kappy was on other teams to justify letting him go.
That other team will regret it.I think a team will outbid the Oilers for his services and he won’t be back.
Finnish Canes fan coming in peace.
2 years x 2M per (Edit: Wow, cap goes up to 104M? Well, max 2.5M then). I do like him as a player, but consistency has been an issue for him. Maybe now when he's married and has a kid (2 months old at the moment) he can focus on being an athlete and find that consistency. IMO his slightly immature and cocky character was the thing that prevented him from being a better player in his younger days.
He seems to like Edmonton and based on interviews he's given in Finnish media, my impression is that he'd like to stay. If that's true, give him a reasonable contract and he'll take it.
Yup. 100%I wish too they give him 2x2, but we have a special spiece of GM here. 2x2 and even 2,5 seems reasonable. More than that makes everything so much harder to work.
Yup. 100%
The better way to look at it. We need Kapanen on a contract that can be traded or waived.
If we sign him for more than $2.5, or more than 2 years we suddenly have a potential boat anchor.
If he comes in and plays like he did in St.L when they waived him then $2m can still be traded or waived.
Why only 6 years? It’s Bowman so expect a 6 year $4M deal with full trade and waiver protection.
Why only 6 years?
Just look at the teams NMC. 2/3 of the team has a NTC or NMC. I dont think any other team in the league has close to Oilers protection. It’s Bowman so expect a 6 year $4M deal with full trade and waiver protection.
Get rid of Frederic then. Retain a million. This should be happening as we speak. You cant have bum contracts eating up capspaceThis is such a dumb take.

Lol you cant compare those 3 high IQ, dog on a puck type players to our role players. They are not even in the same league. If you swapped, the Oilers would be a dynastyIf they play hard though and are surrounded by larger aggressive players, it can work. Carolina is doing okay with Stankoven, Aho and Jarvis.

Thanks for agreeing with me.Lol you cant compare those 3 high IQ, dog on a puck type players to our role players. They are not even in the same league. If you swapped, the Oilers would be a dynasty![]()

I dont think anyone would be opposed to moving Frederic, aside from Trent himself. Unfortunately hes the only one who has any say in that, thanks to Bowman.Get rid of Frederic then. Retain a million. This should be happening as we speak. You cant have bum contracts eating up capspace
I mean assuming they keep Kapanen and Murphy (Dickinson walks)
That's
Savoie (0.89) McDavid (12.5) Hyman (5.5)
Kapanen (2.9) Draisaitl (14) Podkolzin (2.9)
Howard (0.9) RNH (5.125) Frederic (3.8)
Dach (1.5) Samanski (1) Lazar (1)
blank (1)
Ekholm (4) Bouchard (10.5)
Nurse (9.25) Murphy (4)
Walman (7) Emberson (1.3)
blank (1)
Jarry (5.3)
Back-Up (1.75)
Campbell Buy Out (2.6)
That's about 99.7 million. Got a little more than 4 million in cap space there, I would probably keep that for the trade deadline.
Why is Kapanen’s nickname “cheeks”?
