Kasperi Kapanen (Aberg/J Lindgren) Traded to Pittsburgh (15OV/Hallander/E Rod/Warf to Toronto)

My initial impression was that it would be for Murray, but that leaves Toronto with Anderson as well. So maybe it is for another piece.

Gotta be one of the two goaltenders. Almost certainly Murray.

I always liked Kap but his hands never really came around did they?
 
Kap basically reads as a really good third liner to me. I don't see him as top 6 material but he's an upgrade over everyone the Pens had in the bottom 6 this year except maybe Hornqvist.

What it does mean is that Tor and Pit both essentially limited their own markets for the trade. It's probably they've been talking about something for a while and just finalized and pulled trigger when both got eliminated.
 


Sounds like no one knows the return yet. I'm starting to question if it's Murray, because I feel like Murray for Kapanen would have been broken quickly.

Although maybe it's taking a while because Toronto is also working on an Andersen trade, so they're finalizing that after finalizing Murray for Kapanen?

Yeah the longer this stews the more I doubt it's Murray.

And uh... most other realistic options leave me pretty anxious if I'm being honest.

I agree with @orby -- everything I've seen of Kap since he left sorta profiles him as a third liner. But a good one, at least.
 
Expecting: MM for Kapanen

Wondering if Andersen and another piece from the Penguins is also happening. MM+Rust/McCann for Andersen+Kappy?

I watch him all the time with the Leafs and he’s fun as hell to watch.

He has sweet mitts and creates tons of opportunities for himself.

The knock on him I would say is he creates so many chances he should be a 25-30 goal guy... but he isn’t.

Yeah that's what I mean. He's a fun guy to watch but his finishing ability never quite made it.

Still young... maybe he figures it out. Because most of the rest of his game is pretty good.

Fascinating get but I dunno how much it really helps a roster that can't score.

EDIT: Ugh... so they gave up #15? Ehhhhhh...

I can't see why the Pens would want Andersen unless they're trading Murray AND Jarry.
