He is definitely the best Dman when healthy, that’s just talking out of your ass lol. He would never go to Tor anyways. Would need to be Nyl and Mar plus. They would make Tor overpay like hell
I would put Doughty & Hedman, ahead of him.
It is unlikely that the leafs would pursue Karlsson because they like playing against him. Notice how many times Karlsson was on the ice.

It would be impossible if we keep everything the same. Chia would have to get to work.

Karlsson is not paid much this season. Whatever we trade for him would cover the difference. For the season after, his salary will increase by around 5 million I bet, with a deal probably similar to Doughty's or maybe a bit more. So, we'd have to create 5 million space. Russell and Sekera have loosening NTCs next summer, and that's 9.5 million AAV right there.

Maybe even we would trade RNH in a Karlsson trade. That's 6 million AAV that we could maybe replace with a 4 million AAV player.

The one thing that could be a problem is if we had to take Bobby Ryan. We'd have to find a way to lose Lucic to do that. Btw, I do not believe we will have no options for Lucic.

you are suggesting a lot of maybe, what ifs into the equation

Oilers could do it for one year

but after this year that would be the problem

1) moving any of Lucic, Russell or Sekera is harder then you are letting on--
2) We still need to sign Nurse
3) Neither Talbot nor Koskinen are signed beyond this year

Oilers are in cap hell and will be in cap hell for awhile

Canucks will take your worst contract (Lucic?) for one of 2019 1st, Pool Party, Bouchard, or Yamamoto. Maybe Benson and a 2nd. Idk just spitballing here as we need to use our cap space to stock pile assets.

That is gross.

But you have a point. That is a last ditch effort, one that would probably not be needed, but it shows that there is no real obstacle to us getting Karlsson. There's always that nuclear option of letting a team grift us to take Lucic if we need it.

It’s not gross when you look at other recent cap dump trades (Bolland and Crowse come to mind). Maybe the Pool Party and Bouchard ones were too greedy, but the other ones were reasonable IMO.

Absolutely not giving up blue chippers to move Lucic (Pulju, Bouchard, Yamo). But a 1st or 2nd + Benson, done deal.

So, we make the trade for Karlsson then trade Benson + 2nd to get rid of Lucic's contract. Sign me up.

I never understand why a player would rule out signing in Canada. Glad to hear it’s not an issue with Karlsson. If I were an NHLer I’d be thrilled to play in Canada.

some would say moving one of Pool Party, Bouchard or Yamamoto is a lot to give up to move out Lucic--knowing that we would need to replace him and my guess to replace him would cost about 3mill a year

Sell the farm for him if he will extend.

+ + ?

Top young roster player, top prospect, 1st, a few smaller pieces I assume. I doubt a team can match that in value.

Meh, dont want the drama! Keep our players and they can move him somewhere else. Pass from me. Damaged goods

As a hockey fan, I would love to see what McDavid could do with EK, and what EK could do with McDavid.

Make it happen Chiarelli.

When something looks too good to be true...

a) EK did not do well defensively without Methot
b) McD not a PP specialist or sniper, I don´t see the PP possibilities
c) When everyone and their mom expects a stretch pass; It might not be that effective

If there is a chance that 10M$ defenseman doesn´t lift the team, there should be some healthy doubting.

This last year's powerplay was bad so I can see why you would think that.
Year before he did well on the pp

I got the impression he's OK in Ottawa, but just not fond of the current situation with ownership. His wife is from there, so she will have ties to the area.

I never really believed the previous rumour about only wanting to go to U.S. teams. I think he was pretty tight with Alfredsson when he first landed in Ottawa. That probably helped him get acclimatized to the area. Karlsson seems like a straight shooter from what I've seen.

Well, an ex-teammate's wife harrassed him and his wife and **** on their dead baby. And the fans didn't come support them during one of their playoff games in rd 2, that doesn't exactly yell loyalty (and yes, I know...the arena is really really far). And the team is also on a downward spiral without a lottery pick next year to add talent.

Let's just say the last calendar year hasn't been kind to him...he probably wants to bolt asap.

But city of Ottawa itself is beautiful, so that's something positive.
Nice.....You think he wants to leave because we dont support him....

These guys have taken clickbait to a new level on the Karlsson front.

It's the same as it ever was.

Karlsson wants to stay in Ottawa, but not with Melnyk.

Ottawa would never trade Karlsson to Toronto. Ever. The franchise would fold after a move like that.
