I know it feels like he’s only just been here a short time but Kap is going to be 29 and he hasn’t won shit. I’m not sure I want to mortgage the future on him.
He can't do it all on his own. And in most cases, with our struggles for secondary scoring, that's exactly what he's been asked to do.

Fiala hasn't won @#$!, yet you wanted BG to move the earth to keep him. Kap is 10 times better than Fiala.

Since we’re talking about bets, betting on Kaprizov seems like the best chance we have to win anything in the next 5-8 years. You don’t win championships without players like Kaprizov. If we move on from him we need to find someone else on his level.

You actually got a point there, he's flat out getting old 😬

Yeah the problem is that we need more talent around him, if we trade him we might as well do a tear down rebuild until we score an elite 1st overall like a MacKinnon.

Yeah that’s exactly my point. Doesn’t make sense to not give him a blank check basically if your Guerin / Leipold.

He's 10 years younger than Zucc at 27 years old. If he's getting old, then Zucc should be retired already.
Zucc is a relic but he still has 51 points in 67 games this season, for only 4M. That's a nice deal, no idea where he finds energy.

You’re right , he can’t do it on his own. If we pay him 15m plus we will be guaranteeing he has to do it on his own

Eh, should have probably done that deal a month or two back when eggs were $14 bucks a dozen. They're down to like $4.50 now.
Is that right? Good for you. All I know is that US wanted to buy eggs from Sweden, but they noped out of it. Easter is coming up and we eat LOTS of egg then.

Would you prefer Fiala and a 7 million dollar player, or Kaprizov? Really this is an open question to everyone, I'm just replying to you because it's what triggered the thought.

I think I'd prefer Kaprizov because he can work well with far worse than 7 million dollar players, and I don't think Fiala could. You also need to be able to find a 7 million dollar player that fits with the team's holes and culture, and those don't become available often unless they're actually 5 million dollar players who are UFA's asking for 7 million.
That said, it's putting a lot of eggs into one basket, and if that basket breaks like it did this year, you're going through the shit.

Fiala and Boldy were every bit as electric as Kap and Zucc have ever been. I’d take Fiala and the 7m player. Or better yet Fiala and a 10m player and fire Trenin into the sun

Don't think you necessarily need a Kaprizov level to win a Cup, a couple of teams have done it without one. That said, it's more likely with him.

I keep hearing about this extra 15M we're about to have to sign some more secondary scoring (maybe more, depending on the cap). We'll see what actually happens with it given the current GM's proclivities. We could have more if our bottom six was more appropriately paid. It would also help to completely replace dead weight players like Johansson in the top 9. I think those are bigger issues than paying Kaprizov 15M.

So I guess I'm choosing Kaprizov, and then we'll still be able to add a 7M player, and we have Boldy as well.

From what I understand the last folks in charge of it all tried some ridiculous, half assed scheme to combat the bird flu thing and killed a bunch of the chickens here in the US. Guessing they were trying to offset it by buying them from overseas. Or anywhere else they could get them. The new people that took over had a new plan and it's helped drop prices buy 2/3. I quit eating breakfast about a year or so ago, so I don't really buy eggs much anymore. However due to curiosity, when I walk by them in the dairy aisle, I'll take a look to see what they're at for price at the time.

I never like giving out big contracts but the cap goes up and they often don't seem as bad a couple years in.

The question might be does he want to stay.

If he's iffy on resigning at all then I'd move him before next season starts. They'll probably never get what he's worth but they'd get a couple nice pieces and shouldn't want to risk injury and/or losing him for nothing.

All of our bad contracts are just placeholders for the kids.

If we aren't going to sign kap we might as well not try and win a cup.
