I had to stop chomping on my popcorn to change my vote to 15+. I think it's a sure bet.
15 being the cutoff for the upper echelon of the poll when the discussion this thread is based on was around the wild starting at 12.5 and Kaprizov's camp starting at 17.5 is a bit curious. I would have made 15 the middle area with 12 as the lowest option and 18 as the highest option. Right now, people who think he will get 17 are voting for the same option as people who think he will get 15.

For the people who voted 15+, what is the exact AAV you are expecting?

I'm guessing 15 to 15.5. It's such uncharted territory that I can't see his agent wanting more. (I'm also an idiot and don't follow contracts and cap space as much as others so.... who knows lol)

Kaprizov is closer to Draisaitl than he is Rantanen
Not if he isn't on the ice, he isn't. I suggest you take a look at their career stats, and get back to me. Kaprizov chose not to come over to MN till the last minute, while Rantanen toiled away in CO on an ELC, giving them great value during that time, and being a major part of a Cup winning team.

Closer to 15 than 16.

Like I said in the trade thread, I think people are underplaying his injury history as it comes to the negotiating positions. Acting like it doesn't exist.

Prior to the injury I would have said 15+ for sure, but that's three seasons in a row he's been hampered by injuries. And I think it's gonna cost him a million or so.l in order to lock in the 8 years guaranteed.

Assuming he finishes the season healthy, his agent would be doing a disservice to let him go into 2026 without an 8 year deal. Another significant injury could kill his market value for a long term contract as a UFA.

I'm hoping Theofanous has learned from his mishandling of Taresenkos free agency that cost both of them a lot of money. Tarasenko was a PPG player in the year he could negotiate an extension. Decided to risk it and demand a trade, got hurt. Tarasenkos production dipped, he got fired by Vlad, and Tarasenkos is now a journeyman.

I think it comes in between 13 and 14.5. I voted middle of that.

I'll give him 13M and 13 dozen eggs to be delivered on his doorstep every wednesday during regular season, plus 16 dozen more during the playoffs.
That's an offer he can't refuse.

A whole new definition of egging someone's house.

Going into the chicken farm business?

Every time I watch this team choke and lay down in games that matter I’m less excited about paying any of them anything. You wanna be the top paid player in the league you gotta prove you can win. Kap hasn’t done that at all.

He just came back from injury and scored the other night. Holy crap....give him a minute.

Either way you're placing a bet. Either you're betting on Kaprizov being mostly worth it for most of the contract, or you're betting on the ability to piece together a winner without a superstar.

Or I guess option 3 is blowing it up and trying to find one at the top of the draft. But you're placing a bet there too.

When you put it this way, isn't life just a series of bets day in and day out?

I can't think of a reason to not gamble on kap, even more so if the other choices are trade him for whatever and trying to start over.

Eh, should have probably done that deal a month or two back when eggs were $14 bucks a dozen. They're down to like $4.50 now.

I know it feels like he’s only just been here a short time but Kap is going to be 29 and he hasn’t won shit. I’m not sure I want to mortgage the future on him.
