How much do you think Kaprizov will make on his next deal? Here is a list of the higest paid players in the NHL by AAV: https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/contracts.

NHL cap projections for the next three years are:

2025-26: 95.5M
2026-27: (First Year of Kaprizov Extension): 104M
2027-28: 113.5M

I've said my peace. I believe it will come in at above the Panarin 14.29%, which is roughly $14.86M... Hard to fathom right now, but the cap is about to boom.

Basing it off Draisaitl's cap hit and percentage of cap at the time of signing (15.9%), I'm looking at an equivalent value of $15.2 million for Kaprizov. I think it'll go $15+.

But Draisaitl is a better player, has given far more service time to his team, and stays healthy. A better comp is Rantanen, and even there, he has had much better production in the NHL.

With the cap rising, I'd be surprised if he's gonna sign anything under 15M. People who are hoping for around 14M live in a dreamworld IMO.

If I have to guess, I'd say his next contract will be around 16M. If this is too much for the Wild/Guerin, another franchise will pay him for sure.

I can only see him taking a discount if he wants to play with Ovie in Washington. Ovechkin is his idol.

And both have much better support.

Small sample size, and not making any clear conclusions off of it, but Rantanen is 21 points in 30 games without McKinnon. Even if you eliminate Carolina, where he might not have been fully comfortable, he's only 15 points in 17 games with Dallas.

Drai has been the healthier player and has the better resume, I'll admit, but I think Kaprizov is a lot closer to Drai than he is Rantanen.

Ovechkin might be done after next year. He's not going to sign there for 7-8 based on the 1.

Can I throw a poll in the middle of the free agency thread now? If so I was unaware of that functionality.

I voted $15M+......if Guerin overpays guys like Trenin and Foligno, what do you expect when it comes time to pay the most important player of the franchise?

Should be noted that if the cap goes up like planned, giving Kaprizov $15M would leave us with $15M in 2026-27 to figure out:
Jiricek's 2nd contract
Non-Wallstedt goalie
A few way bottom of the lineup guys

Assuming we use all our space this summer on multi-year contracts.
