People usually call it mental equilibristics. Why do you take Kaprizov's rookie season? Let's take last 3 seasons.

Rantanen: 237 gp, 133+168, 301 p.
Kaprizov: 223 gp, 133+146, 279 p.

So 1.27 PPG vs 1.25 PPG, but Kaprizov has a little bit better GPG. Basically the same.

Now playoffs is a team's achievement. Edmonton couldn't make playoffs with McDavid for 3 seasons, does it mean Rantanen is better than McDavid? Don't forget that Kaprizov played injured in 2023 playoffs and was a rookie in 2021 playoffs.

And now to the teams that are around both players. One is a former SC champion, the other has -$14M on salary cup. It would be strange to ignore this.

It's not like Kaprizov is being deployed with scrubs out there either so this whole selective backlash against guys like Rantanen and Draisaitl is getting overstated quite a bit.

As for playoffs Rantanen has an excellent individual resume while Kaprizov has one excellent first round then 2 meh ones.

I took Rantanen mainly because he has a better 2 way game and can be used successfully at center if needed.

Last season Kaprizov playing like shit (by his standarts) for half the season while recovering from an injury still scored overall at the same pace point wise as Rantanen, and scored more goals. If we take the part of the season after Kaprizov was moved to EEk and Boldy, he was on the whole another level than Rantanen.

I'd take Kaprizov. Can't compare Wild to Avs. Playing with 2nd best C in the league and at worst 3rd best offensive D.
