I knew this would be the reaction. Kaprisov out scored Mackinnon in the 2 seasons prior to last year, on a goals per game basis. And got 108 points in 21/22 while Mack got 88.

Mack was a minus player for 3 of his first 4 seasons. Kaprisov has never been a minus player
What are you even talking about? What a ridiculous comparison to make. Should we take this to the polls section?

He's closer to Mackinnon than he gets credit for. He's 2 years younger. He's at the same age now that Mack was when he did the most damage.

Pretty sure MacK is doing the most damage as we speak. Also I suspect the gap between them in points will be double digits by seasons end, in favour of MacKinnon.

Casually leaving out the fact that MacKinnon only played 65 games in 21/22 right?

Kaprizov played 67 games in 22-23 and managed a whopping 75 points...

They're not even in the same tier. Don't kid yourself.

Since apparently you seem to think +/- is an actual useful stat you 'd see that MacKinnon is +108 since 20-21 compared to +76, which means nothing to me but apparently it does to you sooo

Also you really going to compare an 18 year old MacKinnon playing in his first year to a Kaprizov coming over to the NHL as a grown man lmao?

Mackinnon is a product of Makar. Will he even be a PPG player in Minnesota? I have my doubts. Most of his assists are secondary. Just touch the puck by accident and then the big boys Makar and Rantanen will score, nice.

Since rantanen joined the league. Mackinnon 523 assists, 315 primary assists, 208 secondary assists.

Since makar joined the league. Mackinnon 397 assists, 237 primary assists, 160 secondary assists.

Every year we have a new "megastar " capable of running through McDavid, Mackinnon, Drai and Kuch, then by the end of the year we all know where the big 4 usually end up.

Kaprizov basically has 2 100 point seasons already, he isn't "new"... And looking at who he played with, it's pretty legit to say he can compete with those guys, it's just he needs better support.

Mackinnon has “basically” more 100 pt seasons in the NHL than Kaprizov has seasons in the NHL…

Depends what we mean by “compete”. With a 108 point year under his belt and a 100 point per 82 game career average I think it’s fair to suggest he could compete for a 120ish point year with the right breaks/linemates. I don’t think we can project him into the 140+ point range that some of these guys have shown just yet.

Since Kaprizov entered the league, McDavid has averaged 141 points per 82, Kucherov has averaged 128 points per 82, MacKinnon has averaged 126 points per 82 and Draisaitl has averaged 117 points per 82. I like Kaprizov but that’s a pretty big gap to close.

Since the begining of 2023 year (when he got back to playing from a small injury) Kaprizov has scored 90 points in 56 games. It's 132 point season pace.

Yeah, let's see how many points will he score in the next 26 games...

No, we can see after this year, because parting it out over 2 seasons isn’t the same thing as doing it over 1 year or consistently over a larger sample. Also, MacKinnon has 112 since the same date and Kucherov has 107
