Torontos adding, but the potential upside for Virtanen means we're not moving him for a downgrade. Thanks, but no thanks.

Neither side adds. Kapanen is the more skilled player but Virtanen brings physicality that the Leafs could use. It is an interesting idea. Might be a win/win for the teams and for the 2 players as well.

pass from the leafs. Virtanen has done nothing since getting drafted.
52 pts in 50 games draft +1, 1a in 12 career AHL games, 14pts in 65NHL games...

last year i think many leafs fans woulda made this deal. With Kapanen lighting up the AHL (and still one of the youngest players), most would pass easily

Hard pass as a leaf fan, Kapanen is the highest ceiling left on the farm and currently increasing his stock value drastically. Virtanen still has some value but he's definitely trending the opposite way and I think they passed eachother on the value scale already

Pass for the Leafs.

Main difference between Rychel and Virtanen?
Skating, and there is a big gap there. For all his faults, Virtanen is a high-end skater with a great shot. If everything every clicked he's probably Bill Guerin.

Vancouver passes. Despite this management's stupid decisions, Virtanen still has high upside and the possibility that he puts all of his tools together is worth the gamble in keeping him over Kapanen. Not saying Kapanen is bad, but Virtanen's potential is not something I would want to give up on at this time.

For a supposed "heart and soul tough player" I saw absolutely nothing from him in an incredibly chippy game against Toronto. It was literally the perfect situation for him to assert himself, you have the moral highground against a team of rookies with only one real heavyweight, and Virtanen is absolutely invisible all game.

If the physical game isn't in the debate, I don't see where he's better than Kapanen. Speed and shot are roughly equal, Kapanen is more aware defensively and doesn't take dumb penalties at bad times.

Absolutely not. Virtanen has a low hockey IQ and you can't really teach that. I'd much rather roll the dice with kapanen who has been performing well in the A.

Interesting proposal, have always like Kapanen and his pedigree, his hockey IQ and forgive his consistency issues given his youth. Virtanen has more value though. Pass from the Leafs perspective but I'll admit it based strongly because of my bias for Kap.

Again good proposal though.

Leafs fans saying "hard pass" give your heads a shake.

Virtanen sucks. Hope he can turn it around, but not really.

You give your head a shake. It's an opinion. If you haven't watched a single marlies game this season you have no right to judge anyone else.

Kapanen is actually playing like a blue chip prospect. Virtanen is playing like a bust.

Do you know how to read?

I watch more Leafs/Marlies games than you btw, Don.

Ive been a Kapanen supporter since day one, where as you on the other hand, wanted to trade him last year and look at you this year lol.

He re-injured his shoulder and hasn't been a physical force this year.

No thanks. If I'm moving Kapanen, who's been unbelievable this year, it's for a defensive prospect/player around the same age preferably.

I still think Virtanen will be atleast a 20 goal 40 point hard nosed winger, who can skate and shoot. Its really Virtanen's IQ and hockey sense that is holding him back. I believe if you get him with someone he really can click with (Matthews, Nylander or Marner), he might be very effective, the Leafs rookie's can literally make anyone look good. Marner has been carrying JVR, and Nylander made Colin Greening look good.

With virtanens shot, size, speed and grit something has to go terribly wrong for you not to be at least a 30 goal scorer.
