Yeah, Kakko is not getting Rangers a 1st rounder

This would make more sense

To :hawks
RW Kaapo Kakko (RFA)

To :rangers
C/LW Lukas Reichel (1 x $1.2M)
Kakko playing with Bedard and TT? Now that would be very interesting and he could add something very valuable if you think about their weaknesses.

Funny thing is, or tragic. Is a lot of rangers fans aren't interested in the majority of offers people present in here. Haven't been for years especially when he picked up his game. But many of them have still insisted on him getting so little ice time and let older has beens in the Rangers lineup soak ice time and this year is a clear example of this. Get your sh*t straight guys. Do you wanna see him rotten just because what?

Some numbers for all of you who don't actually follow the Rangers

Kakko is 4th on the team in P/60 at 5v5 this year.
Kakko is 1st on the team Primary assists/60 at 5v5 this year.
Kakko is 4th on the team in A/60 at 5v5 this year.
Kakko is 2nd on the team in Rebounds Created/60 at 5v5 this year.
Kakko is 2nd on the team in GF% (67.86%)

At 5v5, Kakko's linemates are:
1 & 3 in ixG/60
1 & 4 in iSCF/60
1 & 3 in i HDCF/60
(i.e. he sets up tons of high danger chances for them)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What you should be looking for if you're trading for him: Young, cost-controlled, defensively reliable winger with 40+pt potential.
How you should be using him: Either on a team or at the very least a line that's built with the intent of producing offense and mitigating opposing offense via sustained offensive zone time.
How you should not use him/plan to use him: On a team and line focused on puck-rushing. He's a good passer but just does not have the skating for that style game

Lowkey if they could convince Zib to waive the Flames could take that money off their hands. Flames have plenty of room to tank bad cap over the next 3-4 years

I mean i'd do that in a heartbeat. getting him to waive is the problem

He'll waive when they start benching him.

From the Caps:
Kaapo Kakko for Hendrix Lapierre

Lapierre is a year younger with slightly lower career PPG than Kakko, but he is a C/LW and the Caps need a RW right now. Having a sophomore slump this season after a good showing last year. RFA in 2025 as well. Rangers probably won't deal him within the division though.

The Ducks had been giving Brett Leason a shot playing RW with Carlsson, being a big body who is pretty responsible and shows little flashes of skill. It didn't work out because Leason doesn't make enough impact, but Kakko should be a notably better version of a similar player. The Ducks are also dreadfully bad at faceoffs, Kakko seems to be good in that area and could help prop up one of the young centers.
Agreed. Also, verbeek seems to prioritize bringing in players who already know existing players ( he signed vatrano and strome together ) killorn and gudas knew each other from gudas early lightning days. And obviously kakko would know Trouba/strome/vatrano already

A Finnish winger who is defensively responsible, but doesn't score a ton. Too bad the Rangers and Canes are in the same division.

Predicting a trade similar to Cotter for Holtz and McLeod for Savoie where Rangers would rather get a good established 3rd liner than another prospect or change of scenery guy.

He isn't pulling a 1st round draft pick.

Id prefer a bottom 4 defenseman who is realiably consistant and a high motor.

Our D is in shambles and we just signed our Goalie for eternity at infinty dollars.

Tops out at a 2nd round pick or character depth guy. This is more like a Zacha - Haula situation.

He's a 40 pt player thus far - so a third liner or complementary second line guy. Maybe there's a Nichushkin kind of reclamation opportunity here, but Rangers won't get anything significant out of it.

But it's over. Team needs a character change, player's never been comfortable there. No need to string it out.

Wait until he gets sent to Detroit in a Patrick Kane deal…

Actually, all jokes aside, we probably shouldn’t discount that happening. Although I’m pretty sure Kane ends up in Tampa, Florida, Vegas or Dallas with Vegas and Dallas the front runners. Not sure he would return to NY from what I understand.

Kakko is fast approaching the same summer DET and Dallas had to make hard decisions on Zadina and Nichushkin. At his current pace, there’s a good chance they don’t get anything in return come this off-season. That’s just reality.

So he should 100% be asking for a trade right now. For the good of his career if nothing else.

If he goes somewhere else and shows more consistency (this year) of what we’ve seen stretches of, he’ll get himself a nice 1-2 year prove it deal with that team.

There’s nothing telling us that’s gonna happen with the Rangers though, so they may as well cash-in their chips.

Last January, or at least post Xmas, there were a handful of teams interested. Every chance those teams still are. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the price has come down even more, as they’ve hit that stage, they’re just not gonna get a whole lot in return. It may very well be, a deal like the one I mentioned above. Might not be Kane, but that type of a deal.

At best, maybe they can land a Marchessault for him, if the Preds want to cut those ties. The problem is Marchessault’s contract, but there’s a good bet, he turns it around wherever he goes. If he goes somewhere else. Ottawa should be all over Marchessault but we’ll see what happens there.

As for Kakko, just can’t see him getting any young prospects or Top 60 picks in return now, unless it’s the Berggren types. Another similar aged player who’s shown he can put up points in the NHL, but just hasn’t shown enough consistency. Whether that’s from lack of opportunities or he’s just been flat inconsistent. Because that’s who Kakko also is.

His draft status means absolutely nothing at this point. Except for his higher QO.

The flashes he still shows, is what a team is interested in. No different than if he was a 4th rounder, with the same inconsistencies. The teams interested, are hoping he can become a consistent secondary point producer. Not a star.

Nobody’s trading for him to be the kid he was supposed to be on Draft Day anymore. If he turned it around like Nichushkin did, it would be pure bonus for the team he goes to.

Nobody’s expecting that anymore, and won’t be paying for that in any trade. Maybe, they get a team like Utah, with all those extra picks, to offer a little more puck wise, but then the Rangers are gonna have to pay someone else for an actual player, they can turn Kakko into via trade.

As it stands, I’d look more for the return being a veteran (needing a change) who can help the Rangers now, and maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder added in. NY just has no leverage anymore, ands time is about up.
