Player Discussion Kaiden Guhle

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'd start with the following, and then see how it goes:

Matheson - Carrier
Struble - Hutson
Xhekaj - Guhle
Savard
First few games while Guhle gets back up to speed sure, we might even run a few games dressing 7D and sit Roy. But after a few games I'd be tempted to go with

Guhle - Hutson
Matheson - Carrier
Xhekaj - Struble/Savard

I've really like the Struble/Hutson pairing but Guhle replacing Struble can take it to the next level. And although I would like to see Savard sit a bit between now and the playoffs, he's going to be in the top-6 if we do make the playoffs.

For me, you play Xhekaj against big teams like Florida, Boston, Ottawa, so 4-5 games and you sit Savard. Otherwise, Xhekaj sits.

You might sit Struble couple of games to on back to backs.

If Guhle comes back against Carolina on the 28th, I would sit Xhekaj and alternately sit Savard and Struble for the 2 games against Florida. as Xhekaj is needed against Florida.

Would also play Xhekaj against Boston. The game could get ugly between two old rivals if Boston is out of the playoffs portrait. Just to avoid Boston to take liberties on our good players.

The thing is, in the past the Xhekaj - Struble pairing wasn't the greatest. And the Xhekaj - Savard pairing has struggled at times. So I'd be curious to see how it would go to keep the top 2 pairs which are going well intact, and then add Guhle to the bottom pair. Can always change it up when you want to give Guhle more ice time. But having Guhle with X could help X, and Steuble has benefited from playing with Hutson.

Marty will simp for his vets. Struble is coming out.
So unfortunate. Savard is a litteral BLACK HOLE. 5v5 expected goals by pairings :

Matheson-Savard 22.9%
Guhle-Savard 25.9%
Hutson-Savard 39.5%
Xhekaj-Savard 45.9%

Bonus : Hutson-Struble 59.1% (Best pairing of the year with meaningful minutes)

Xhekaj has done the best possible job with black hole Savard. Not easy having to basically cover both sides while Savard eats his ice cream on his camping chair in front of the net.

If they don’t get Savard out of there, this is not a meritocracy and they deserve to lose.

Both Savard and MM drag theur pairs down at 5v5, the vets are not vetting.

Matty gets better when he has less responsibilities.

If he has one job to do, he'd be fine which is why I think if he fully commits to becoming a pure shutdown 3rd pairing/penalty killer moving forward, he heartburn from watching him play will subside substantially.

It’s true but Matheson is the guy Marty puts out against McKinnon and McDavid because he’s our fastest D so I’m ready to give him the benefit of the doubt. Savard is sheltered af, plays less then 15 mins and still finds a way to cost us dearly.

It'll be a big boost when Guhle comes back. I imagine MSL will scratch Struble when Guhle's ready (or possibly Xhekaj), but it should be Savard. Outside of the PK, Savard is pretty limited in how effective he can be right now with how slow he is.

Yea, but that’s not what Marty is gonna do. Either Xhekaj or Struble out. And knowing Marty, he’ll probably bench Xhekaj against big heavy WSH team.
Based on what exactly?

I do not at all see MSL touching Struble-Hutson’s duo.

They will take their time rehabbing Guhle, pushing out decision as far as they can - eventually 3rd pair will likely see alternation w one of Xhekaj / Savard sitting out depending on who the opposition is (pace factor)

He's very injury prone though...like it seemed that every game leading up to his ultimate injury, that he was about to get injured.

Not sure what it is with him, but he's by far the most injury prone player on this team.

Still a very good and valuable player though, not suggesting they should get rid of him.
He’s just too skinny IMO. At his height, he needs to play at 220 at least.

Pairings should be

Ghule-Carrier
Struble-Hutson
Xhekaj-Matheson
Savard out

That defense is underrated; 3 ultra mobile dman (Carrier, Hutson, Matheson), 2 physicals Dman (X and Struble), and one that brings both (Ghule). With Reinbacher and Mailloux coming soon , that defense is set .
