That's why I said Plekanec + (that + could be a good prospect or a draft pick). He would help them out defensively, as he's a great shutdown C.

Toronto's goals are long term. Plekanec has very little value to us. The + would need to make up almost all Kadri's value, in other words, it's a far bigger plus than you would do.

Maybe you decided to make that offer off of this Kadri for Hanzal base but this base is horrible. It doesn't make sense and any similar trade also doesn't make sense. No Leafs fans thinking logically wants to do this. I don't know what OP is doing, but every post he makes is all negative so this is just a continuation of that, he must hate Kadri or something.

Ding ding ding!

I understand Plekanec is way older, and I get that this is long term, but he still is a great shutdown C (and could be great at 3C this & next year for Toronto while they acquire the necessary pieces in order to contend). What if it was Plekanec + Scherbak/Hudon though?

IIRC he's been going crazy on our board wanting to fire Babcock and trade everyone. Basically this is the fans people talk about when they say they can't handle a rebuild. First year with talent in the NHL and wants to trade half the team when they don't set the world on fire right away.

yep that is him.

Nope. Never once advocated firing Babcock or accelerating the rebuild. In fact, I wanted Burke/Nonis fired, Kessel traded and to tank before most. You're confused.

Kadri was recently signed to a good value long term contract and will be going nowhere. Especially not for old, injured or soon to be UFA'S.

if we are getting 8 years older and getting a pending UFA from a rival the + would have to be immense. sergachev comes to mind

Not even close from Toronto.

Kadri is younger and better.

Hanzal is the exact type of player that Toronto should be going after. But considering his contract and injury history, Kadri isn't the right piece to be offering.

And Kadri should be the reason why we shouldn't be going after guys like Hanzal. Matthews,Nylander and Kadri as your top 3 centers looks pretty good to me. Maybe good enough to win a cup down the road. Kadri is perfectly capable of putting up points and has really rounded out his game in recent years. He plays defense well enough that I'd be confident in him being in that shutdown/pest type of role against the leagues best.

Could rock Hanzal and Gauthier as the bottom-6 C's, both 6'5+ defensively dominant centers. Kadri/Marner/Nylander could rotate between 2C and wing. Kadri could be a Marchand like compliment to a Matthews - Nylander line, while Marner tacked his own line for example.

Just have to get him the right way which is FA.

Hypothetical: Arizona gets Kadri, Toronto gets Hanzal. The Coyotes get Kadri for the prime of his career on a long-term contract. He's younger, cheaper and healthier than Hanzal, who is no guarantee to re-sign with them.

Hanzal is a 29-year-old pending UFA who's often-injured, but he's a big shutdown C to slot behind Matthews as the unquestioned 2C. He brings size, defense and experience. Philosophically, I prefer Hanzal for Toronto. I think he would be that Brind'Amour/Holik-type who can mentor Matthews. I don't see it as a win-now move for Toronto; if you re-sign Hanzal for 5 years, both he and Kadri would expire at the same time, and imo Hanzal would still be effective for the duration of his contract.

If this fair?

Thank you providing the answer for why Toronto would never even consider this.

Only way that would make sense, is if Leafs were convinced they could flip Hanzal at the deadline for something more substantial than Kadri. In which case...why would the Coyotes in a similar phase of their rebuild want to make that deal?

Here are a number of reasons why this trade is a joke:

Kadri just signed a 6 year deal with a cap friendly hit of $4.5 mil per
Hazal is in the last year of his deal at $3.1 mil and his next contract he may even be more then $4.5 mil per

From the 2013-14 season to last year, Kadri has missed 19 games
From the 2013-14 season to last year, Hazal has missed 80 games

From the 2013-14 season to last year, Kadri has scored 55 goals and 104 points
From the 2013-14 season to last year, Hazal has scored 35 goals and 104 points

So far this year Kadri has 5 goals and 8 points Hanzal has 2 goals and 4 points

How is your offer straight up a fair deal not to mention Kadri is 3 years younger entering the prime of his career.
