I guarantee that Kakko would get the puck first most of the time and then never get off the wall all of the time
Well then he would not win the drill. You have to skate from the blueline, win the battle for the puck and then get the shot on net :)

Well, that's not good then, that he can't win these drills you found watching Youngblood.

Did they have those drills in Youngblood? Geez Ive seen that movie at least 3 times and I don't remember that. Thats how bad my memory is. We did them in rec league clinic, high school and college. I remember feeling helpless at college try outs against a guy who had 6 inches and 50 pounds on me. :(

I threw Youngblood in there because it was the first thing I visualized when you described the drill. Not sure if the drill was in the movie, but I'm sure Rob Lowe doing farm work is.

Somehow kakko scored more 5v5 goals than Trocheck and Mika
KK clearly had a better regular season and playoffs than Vince. Any other organization would have swapped KK for Vince on the powerplay and short handed. Is that how this goes? Am I right? :D

Maybe. Is 5 on 5 would be more important than even strength? Should guys be penalized for scoring while short handed?
Not penalized but at the same time short handed points are streaky.
Even strength is where the majority of time is spent, if you’re only scoring on the pp (Mika) then you’re struggling with tighter spaces,
If you’re scoring short handed, it’s mostly rush chances which are streaky, but it is more difficult than even strength.

Well I think Vince had more even strength goals, PP goals, and shorthanded goals than KK so that is why I asked about 5 on 5 goals. It felt like cherry picking stats.

I don’t get how it’s cherry picked. It’s not like I’m arguing he’s better than these players. Just throwing out a stat that is probably surprising to people

Its slightly cherry picked. Even strength includes 4v4 and 3v3 which are way more open ice and easier to score for skilled players.

Felt like a conclusion was implied that is somewhat misleading. Vince had a great season. KK had a disappointing season. If there are 10 stats and KK was equal or better than Vince in 1 of the 10 do we only post the 1 and ignore the other 9?

Yeah but it's also including ice time where one player gets minutes and the other doesn't.

I don't understand what the fuss is about though. It's a simple fact and nothing that really diminishes anything Vinny did this year. Trocheck has always been a below average finisher and a stupidly underrated passer.

Was just posting a stat in the kakko thread to give some reason for optimism. It’s not that deep

Thats mostly a reasonable take. I might be willing to risk the long term benefit, for a fantastic short term benefit.
But there are two players who the offer would have to be insane for me to consider moving.
Laf and Fox.

It's funny what a difference a season can make.

Before this past season, let's say Edmonton offered Draisaitl for Laf. Yeah, I know it couldn't have happened. Now, I wouldn't trade Laf for Draisaitl, although I imagine some would.

Which is why I really don’t want to move Kakko.
One season can swing things way too quickly for such a young kid.

If Edm offers us Leo I will drive 23 year old KK to the airport and buy him a ticket. I would say that for almost every player on this team. I do understand your point but their is a difference between giving up on someone and getting paid a handsome trade for someone. :)

The particulars of the deal mean everything.
I think, though, he was using a bit of a hyperbolic example to make a more subtle point about giving up on a young player...
Someone offers a Drai for Kakko? Done. Someone wants to trade KK straight up for Ross Colton? No f***ing thank you.

Would you trade Laf for Draisaitl, today?

A yes or no would be understandable, but I'd vote no.

That is a really interesting question.

Pros:
Leo is still the better player today.
Leo can also play center.

Cons:
Leo is much closer to 30 years old.
Laf hopefully has not peaked yet.

If I throw in KK can we swap Connor for Leo? :D

After watching Edmonton break Florida for the 3rd game with their speed, I am going to bet on the Rangers moving on from Kakko. They keep talking about getting faster and tougher. They are going to use him for getting more of that.
