Holy f***

Forget everything I said in previous threads about player values. Drury is a f***ing disgrace and literally giving everything away for scraps.

I thought he would learn from the Buch trade but I guess not. f*** this guy.
That’s probably about the most he could’ve gotten. Getting a UFA to be, who can help them this year, and a couple of small futures.

Just nobody was gonna pay good value for someone who’s rarely showed any consistency, AND, this is big….. has a $2.6 million Qualifying offer this summer.

He’s gonna be 24 come QO time. If nothing changed, there’s a good bet he wouldn’t have been qualified.

I thought maybe they could get another 23-24 year old like Berggren for example, who’s also been very inconsistent, but also shown high end signs. The difference though? Berggren has an $865k QO and Kakko $2.6 million. Likely why they didn’t get any if those offers.

The ironic thing is, many fans and media ignored all of the reality, still valuing him as a Top pick in the draft, when in reality, that likely hurt his value, because of the high qualifying offer he still has.

Good bet, if he’s just as inconsistent in Seattle, he’ll be a UFA come time the summer.

I think they’re going to have to offer every significant UFA a full NMC moving forward as long as this regime is in charge.
No they won't. NYR are one of the few franchises that can be ruthless and show 0 loyalty to their players and be pretty much unaffected. Maybe some guys won't sign there unless they get a NMC, but there are still tons of players that would jump at the chance to play for the Rangers.

New York City is just a city on another level compared to any other city in the NHL, and frankly no other city in North America is like it. Unless you value the best weather, or maximizing your money earned (and there's definitely a lot of guys that value those the most, don't get me wrong), then it's probably the most attractive city destination in the NHL, plus it's a franchise that is usually guaranteed to be competitive.

I mean yeah I really would like him here too but there was absolutely no f***ing shot they were ever moving him here. Hope he signs here as a UFA
Yea in fact i doubt he entertained any offers from any team in the east. If he's gonna break out elsewhere, some place like Seattle is more palatable

This isn’t the 90s.

Unless a player’s spouse or GF wants to move to the NY area, it’s not any more attractive a destination than say LA or Tampa. Not to mention that Vancouver, Toronto and Edmonton have become much more competitive destinations for players that want to win or who want to live and play in Canada.

This isn’t as bad at Rangers fans are making it out to be
It's not great to be honest.

Borgen is a decent middle d-man but he's taken a big step back this year. The picks being 3rd and 6th rounders are borderline moot.

Kakko is 5 years removed from being a 2nd overall pick. It's crazy to me that Drury couldn't fetch something more tangible than this. Kakko has done what's asked of him despite never being given a real chance to move up the roster in a meaningful way. He hasn't played over 18 minutes in nearly 2 calendar years.

I know Lav's not the best coach for developing young guys but he felt doomed from the start with the Rangers. I expect him to find some nice success in Seattle.

Yeah he should have turned down money so that Drury could put it to good use
Not what I'm saying although some players do take less so the team can garner other assets

What I am saying is that in a cap era, when you tie up cash and term and your team sucks, you can laugh all the way to the bank while people like me don't give a shit if your career is wasted
