Kakko is figuring it out. He's hit some posts and missed some chances and as he gets more comfortable those will start going in for him.
He’ll be fine. He is 18. In a new country away from his family and friends starting a whole new routine. In the toughest hockey league in the world. That would be tough for anyone not named Gretzky, Lemieux,Crosby etc.
wait til KK is 21 he may be a monster.
Hopefully we get some more good luck and add Byfield as well. :)

Kaapo Kakon keittiössä ahkeroi kaksi kokkia – opiskelee NHL-elämää New Yorkin metropolin sykkeessä: "En ole vielä valmis pelaaja tänne – sitä kohti mennään"

- Kakko has two chefs on his host family

- He says everything is so different and he is slowly adjusting to it

- Still talks like he had high expectations on himself and he wanted to be player who can score goals and turn games for rangers.

- He understands that he isn't on level he needs to be to play top6 lines.

- Team management have talked to him how they wanna slowly make him ready for playstyle in NHL.

- He says that he is only 18 and it is super rare for 18 year old to be ready to play in NHL and that he isn't ready yet, but he is slowly working towards that goal.

- Understands his demotion to bottom lines and that he has lots of work to do and that he need to work harder.

"Kaapo Kakko is a pure-blooded farmgirl."

Gotta love Google Translate.

He’s struggled the past few games, but I’d say I’ve been overall pretty impressed. More confident than ever he’s going to be a great player.

He’s taken over a few shifts and on the power play he looks like a 10 year veteran.

He’s been put in a pretty crappy situation to start his career, so I’m not surprised the points haven’t come yet. They 100% will though.

I actually thought his third period against Boston was his best in terms of playing his game. He started finding room with the puck in that period. Sure Boston laid back but to me that was his best period of the season up till last night. That goal was huge for him. I’m leaving for Mexico this weekend for a few days so won’t see these next couple games till I get back but I think he’s going to play well. Gotta keep feeding him PP1 time. The confidence really builds there

Think he's fallen somewhere in between where the optimists and pessimists projected him. He had a shift yesterday where he was dancing around Tampa players with the puck, and even though he ultimately lost it I was like "finally, there's the Kakko we all know and love"

Even though he plays somewhat of a power forward game he's a very cerebral player. He's slowly learning what works and what doesn't and I'd be shocked if he doesn't come around after 30-40 games

Yeah, Kakko is going to take some time. Rough start to the season, but the puck control, stickhandling, hockey IQ and everything that's advertised for him has been flashed, even if briefly. He'll be a beast, he just needs time.

I think the only big knock I have on Kakko is that he doesn't have very explosive skating, but as he bulks up I doubt it'll matter as much. Not to mention, I wouldn't be surprised if he worked on adding a bit more explosiveness to his stride. And obviously his conditioning needs to work itself into being NHL level conditioning, but that'll also come with time.

IMO he clearly has the skill to thrive in this league. I think his issues are mostly confidence, which is understandable. He's not falling into a team that has it going all around him and gives him the luxury of easier matchups and not being a focus of other teams defenses.

Look what a confidence boost did for Chytil. It has a huge effect on the way a guy plays, especially young players trying to establish themselves.

That goal will do him wonders and hopefully lead to a few more. Once he gets a handful of points on the board, he'll look very different imo.

Don't know if it's been posted here but this was in The Athletic:

New York has been out-shot 92-52 and outscored 9-1 at 5-on-5 with Kakko out there.

He looks like a stronger, slower version of Kovalev at 17. Not the same style, but clearly not there, yet.

I'm super bored at work. A visual for anyone either wondering or expecting more out of Kakko (I'm not).

1st year offensive production for a 2nd over-all selection past 10 years.

2018 - Svechnikov 18 yrs - 82gp - 20g - 17a - 37pts
2017 - Patrick 18 yrs - 73gp - 13g - 17a - 30pts
2016 - Laine 18 yrs - 73gp - 36g - 28a - 64pts
2015 - Eichel 19 yrs - 81gp - 24g - 32a - 56pts
2014 - Reinhart 19 yrs - 9gp - 0g - 1a - 1pts
2013 - Barkov 18 yrs - 54gp - 8g - 16a - 24pts
2012 - Murray 20 yrs - 66gp - 4g - 17a - 21pts
2011 - Landeskog 19 yrs - 82gp - 22g - 30a - 52pts
2010 - Seguin 19 yrs - 74gp - 11g - 11a - 22pts
2009 - Hedman 19 yrs - 74gp - 4g - 16a - 20pts

Obviously Murray and Hedman don't matter as much, but I couldn't leave them out. This has no bearing of how Kakko will turn out, but you can't help but be excited for the company he is in and what he's likely to become. Most of these guys blew up 2nd and 3rd years. Stay positive and be patient!

Have a Happy Halloween everyone! :ghost3::bones::bat::blackcat::vampire::witch::wwitch::wbrew::gargoyle::ghost1::frank:

I think he should stay on the 3rd line for a while. Less pressure, could free him up to just go out and play without feeling like he needs to be scoring goals.

That puts more pressure on him to score when he isn't scoring. He wants to put the puck in the net. Make it easier for him, get that confidence going up like it has been.

He is only 18 years old in a new environment and a league. He is VERY confident young man and is putting too much pressure on himself. He has been best player in every team in his short career so far until now and the fact that he isn't it clearly frustrates him (based on interviews he gave to finnish media). Short stint in AHL wouldn't hurt him because he needs ice time but he gains more staying up as he is improving and learning every day. Put him with Panarin around Christmas and see him scoring 30+30 this season.

He's got really good head on his on his shoulders, can't emphasis this enough. Not only is he a very good hockey player he is natural born winner and leader and hopefully you'll get to see that in the next decade.

Just how poorly has Rangers rookie Kaapo Kakko played? By average Game Score, his minus-0.88 ranks second-last in the entire league, ahead of only Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

I'm so impressed at some of the introspective analyses Kakko can provide at 18 years old. He just seems so on top of everything within his own development and keeps setting goals for himself to improve. Have we ever in our history had a young player (excluding Hank) that was so driven to be the best on the team and embrace the spotlight? We had it with Jagr and seemingly have it again now with Panarin, but it just seems so rare for an 18 year old.

No offense, Im excited about him, but I certainly dont see this right now. I see an 18 year old kid trying to find his footing in a new country, with a new team, playing a different type of game on a different rink. He'll figure it out. Anyone who thought he'd rocket out of the gate was setting themselves up for disappointment.

I thought he looked more confident and active with the puck on Tuesday, which is really all I am looking for right now.

The skill is there. When he fills out even more (and maybe even his skating improves) he's going to be a tough player to contain.
