Whats your offer from your team?

Rangers start with asking for 1st round pick and someone that is 25 or younger, that can be either a center that can skate, be tenacious and go to the net to score, be consistent or LD that can skate, pass the puck quickly, clear the crease and defend that is not inconsistent.

This is a little wild, but, I'd try to do something along the lines of...

Zibanejad
K Miller

for

Farabee
Coleman ( retained ? )
Miromanov
cap space

You'd have to put Schneider on the left side for the time being or flip Miromanov for a cheap LD. Then also you'd have to use that cap space to bring in a 3rd line center.

Rangers winger depth gets a bit stacked. Calgary center depth gets a bit stacked.

Not what NYR are asking for, but I think it somewhat works IMO. Cap space is important to NYR, in the same way draft picks are. Their roster still would need further tweaking.

The Rangers D pairs for next year are sitting with something like:

Soucy-Fox
Miller-Borgen
Vaakainen-Schneider

If Miller was actually this very valuable piece, why are the Rangers trading him rather than just re-signing him? They obviously need LD and Miller looks like their best one on the roster. I don't see how it's logically consistent that a team starved for LD doesn't want him but other teams will pay a ton to get him. I'd still make an offer of something like a 2nd and 3rd for him, but I wouldn't go for a 1st+ on him even if my team had a late 1st.

It's a similar situation to Rossi in Minnesota, if a team that desperately needs a top-6 center doesn't want to pay the young top-6 center they have, what does that say about Rossi?

It sounds like you want to trade K'Andre Miller for a player that is younger and already better than K'Andre Miller and get a 1st round pick on top of that.

Am I reading that correctly?
That's the way I'm reading it. After spending an hour getting beat up in his 'other' Miller thread, OP decided to try this proposal without any names attached this time.

A 1st and a player, thats funny.

Farabee for Miller is probably close on it's own. Flames don't want anything to do with Zib's contract though

I think Rangers fans want to keep him unless a similar young player comes back

If Schneider goes in a Peterka deal
Gavrikov to NYR ufa
Miller for Spence and a pick makes sense

Zib does not have much value when he controls his destiny wherever he goes. An NMC throughout the entire duration of his contract is insane. Hard to extract any kind of value in that. We already have an aging Kadri, but with a modified NTC down the road in the case that he needs to be traded.

Kings don’t need that headache. Would rather play Spence on his off side.

So it’s value/assst management to an extent. Rangers need a no doubt 1LHD. If they don’t think it’s Miller, then they probably should trade him. It’s not like they are swimming in picks and prospects. Cap situation (especially if they get a 1LHD like Gavrikov) isn’t ideal either. Rangers have a bunch of guys (not saying they have a bunch of good guys, but they have a lot of quantity) that can play those 2nd pair/3rd pair roles, so Miller is kind of in a weird spot there because he’s (rightfully or wrongfully); not thought of as a 1D, and Rangers have options for the other two pairings. Miller is also moveable and carries some value (unlike others) which is why he is in on the block.

I do understand this part so I get what you're saying, but it just seems odd to me. I feel like it would make a lot more sense to move Soucy out, keep Miller and sign Gavrikov in UFA, which lets them run with:

Gavrikov-Fox
Miller-Borgen
Vaakainen-Schneider

I know Miller is going to cost more than Soucy, but he's also way younger and better than Soucy and the money difference will probably only be about $2 million a year or so. That defense actually looks pretty good in my opinion.

Like I said, it feels similar to Rossi in Minnesota where it feels weird that a team that needs a position so badly but they're shopping a young player at that position that they already have. It's a "you need him but don't want him, so what's the issue here?" type of situation.

Soucy going to get traded too. But yeah, the easiest thing to do would be to keep Miller, but it’s an asset management move. It’s hard to say whether I agree with it or not, but it’s going to happen. Like any scenario where they move Miller and don’t get Gavrikov is a full stop disaster. But Rangers are a mess, heads are already rolling and with so many guys on NMC, they do not have a ton of options.
