I get Ron Hainsey vibes. Which honestly isn't a compliment or a criticism. He's a good player but I get the feeling he'll always leave you wanting.

Still he's young and has plenty of time and opportunity to prove me wrong.
We didn't give up a player for Hainsey though, so this is worse.

We gave Lekhonen for him. A dime a dozen player for a young promising RD. It was a very good trade. Does anybody really miss Lekhonen? Serious question

Levine was better than a dime a dozen player but no it wasn’t a huge loss.

He has high offensive upside if he works out the kinks defensively then it’s a great trade. Even still going for high upside while not giving up big assets is always a good gamble for me

This year Guhle and Barron haven't been eased in, they have been playing top 4 minutes and when Savard was hurt they had to play even more.

As expected, given they are young D, they have both struggled at times. However for the most part, they have done very well considering how much they have been relied upon.

Luckily we finally have a patient management team and coaching staff which allow our young players to learn and play through their mistakes to help them in the long-run.

Glue guy - I get it we live in the era of Michigan pond hockey but dime a dozen my ass…
You dont think Lekhonen is a very easy player to replace? I prefer harveypinard than Lekhonen. I really dont miss Lekh dont understand the sudden love for the guy. He couldnt score and was very underwhelming when playing for the habs. Of course he became better playing on mackinnon line just like Drouin this season

We used, if i remember correctly, the 14th pick on Hainsey. That's pretty similar value to Lehkonen (given how he's played since the trade). Plus Barron came with a 2nd.

I haven't been able to watch enough recently. But I liked what I saw earlier this year.

Holy crap there are some terrible recent takes in this thread. :help:

I've noticed Barron has been much better for three of four games running and we can discard the Buffalo affair out of hand.
What I expect from Barron and find normal are the odd decision making errors.
What I don't expect and truly dislike are the falling over oneself and the clumsy unforced errors.
It shows a Lack of focus and Lack of confidence for no reason.
He's managed to clean that up some and it shows.

I liked Lehkonen but it was the right move to make. Barron is still much younger and still developing.
It was good asset management at the time of the trade and it remains so a few years later , we should actually be happy with how the trade is ending up this kid could have easily been a non-NHL player or a total bust or still in the AHL like so many others and we could then easily say the trade was an obvious loss after two years of hindsight.

Even now we could still flip Barron and not bat an eye in terms of positional strength although I wonder what his value would be , I wonder if it's higher than it was when we acquired him logically it would be since he is a full time NHLer on the habs but I'm not so sure because of his weakness on the defensive side of the puck.

Well said. And I agree. He's playing within the range of expectations considering his age and how many NHL games he has under his belt. God forbid a very young, nearly rookie defenseman is having ups-and-downs. Color me deeply and mortally shocked! :sarcasm:

It's unreal that some fans scream out "trade him", "he sucks' and other hyperbole under the circumstances. We even heard some of the same calls for our now emerging young PF, Slafkovsky.

I see a LOT of promise with Barron. And you're right, his play has actually been solid overall with a few small bad streaks. The kid has size, skill and plays the right side. This was another, amongst several, stroke of genius by Hughes. Leks is a decent player, no doubt. But if Barron progresses and improves, matures...he'll be a big part of our future long after Leks has retired. Or, we'll be able to parlay him for another decent player or pick.

People forget, how bad Lekky was most of the time while in Montreal.................that said, good guy who scored some huge goals in da playoff!!
Was really glad to see him get a Cup...............but really glad we made that deal.
Barron is kid with a ton of talent..........we see glimpses now and then.......................and of course, like every Dman on our squad, young or old, he has brain farts also...

If that is your assessment of Arturri Lehkonen I guess I can skip any other gems you may want to impart on us?
Goddamn I wish I had four dimes right now.

So... How has he looked since getting demoted to the A?
Still looks disorganized to me in his own end but then again they all do. He’s not getting caught because of slow decision making like he was in the nhl. Not really producing points either. I honestly didn’t know this guy needed this much work to be honest. I hope he’s ready in a couple years. I can’t see him cracking the Habs lineup next year.

Colorado is laughing that they managed to pawn off a bust for a regular top 9 player on a cup team.

Hughes should’ve scouted before this trade. He had no reason to rush this move. Lehk was an RFA.

I watch Laval's games and to be honest, Barron's D zone game is not improving a whole lot.

I'm sure they scouted Barron.

As some of us posted prior to the deal, Lekhonen’s game was much more that stat gazing and because of that he’d never get equivalent value in a return…. which is what has happened

He’s a player that can be used in all situations, moved up and down a lineup while giving 100% on every shift.

HuGo got fleeced on both Lekhonen & Toffoli deals

Yep. To be fair, the whole team is bad defensively. They gave up 35 shots to one of the worst teams last night. If not for Dobes, that game could’ve been closer at least. Struble and Arber made a big difference. I in no way only blame the D though. I think they really lack a good, veteran presence back there. And the forwards are pretty young in general. IF they get into the playoffs, without some changes, I fear they’ll get smoked in the first round.
