With the Habs looking to acquire a possible mobile LHD to play with Weber and Beaulieu more of a 2nd pairing guy.

As many fan bases have said around here that the Habs don't have the pieces to acquire a top 4 dman via trade. That's excluding McCarron, Juulsen, and Sergachev. As Habs fans want to hold on to them.

I figured the Habs maybe she try to free up a bit more cap and see if Russell will take a lesser salary than expected earlier when free agency opened.

The players looking to move would be:

Brian Flynn
Stefan Matteau

Just for picks to shed around 1.8mill in cap space putting the Habs around 3.2 mill to maybe offer to Russell on maybe a 3-4yr term.

I know many say Alexei Emelin could be used but a lot of teams won't bite with another year left on his deal even if he is serviceable. If he could be moved then the Habs could roll with:

Russell Weber
Markov Petry
Beaulieu Pateryn
Barberio.

So is there any teams that's would want to take on Flynn a 15-20pt guy or Matteau each a year left for picks. Emelin as well anywhere for some picks.

I think you'll have trouble getting any offers.

Right now, there's tons of spares, and 4th liners unsigned who could go for PTOs and small contracts. Wouldn't make sense to trade an asset for these guys when you can get similar depth from the UFA group remaining.

People expectation on young D are off the hook it's ridiculous. Beaulieu still has a ton of potential, hes still young, has a top notch skating, isnt afraid to hit, hes pretty good in his own zone, juste because he hasnt put 50pts at the point of his young career that he wont end up top pair or realy good 3# D, in my opinion with subbans departure beaulieu will shock people and will have a hell of a season being the the main D who brings the puck in the offensive zone, he has the vision and the skating to do so! He was playing a more traditional D game, with PK gonr i see beaulieu steping up and playing along weber

I'd rather keep Flynn & Matteau over signing Russell for anything.. Especially a Russell-Weber pairing, oh man, we'd never get out of our D-zone.

We had Gorges at $3.9M, he was dealt because of how bad he was at everything outside of shot blocking. We don't need another version of that.

We don't have a Subban anymore to carry someone like Russell.

Leave it as is, move Flynn/Matteau for anything or demote to the minors.

No teams would want Flynn or Matteau. All teams have prospects who are capable of the same skillset without giving up an asset. Now if the Habs were serious about shedding salary Mitchell (fourth line right handed center) or Byron (penalty kill specialist) would have more appeal. When moving depth players you have to offer up guys who at least could fit a need on a team. But do not expect much in return for either guy.

Flynn can be sent to the AHL and his $950,000 cap hit won't hit our cap space.

If Matteau plays well in preseason, he'll be a depth forward making minimal money which is what you'd want from a depth forward. If he sucks, then he'll play for our AHL team assuming he doesn't get claimed.

According to Cap Friendly the Habs have 14 forwards 8 defensemen and 3 Goalies on the roster with $855,357 left in cap space.
If Montreal doesn't trade Mike Condon (Cap Hit 575,000) he'll likely end up in the AHL.

If you want a top pairing D, there can be no untouchables, and you most certainly won't get one with 4th liners and bottom pairing Dmen being offered up.

Both of these guys will probably be heading for waivers, and then the AHL...Flynn is more likely to stay in the NHL than Ma-toe..........

A few issues here :

Matteau and Flynn are zero-cap players once in the AHL.
Russell being described as a Top-4 D-Men.

Traded To MTL : Kris Russell
Traded To Free Agency : Cap Dump

... yeah, that's totally how it works.

For me, McCarron is definitely a tradeable asset in acquiring a top pairing LHD.

Teams aren't really trading top end D right now. Any deal that would get you one would take such large pieces that whether McCarron was in them or not would be irrelevant.

Although if you are referencing Russell as a top pairing guy then that's a whole separate issue.

Flynn, DD, Matteau and Emelin are my picks for trade. Almost 10 million bucks of mediocrity.

McCarron is a special asset you keep. The guy could play as the third line center next October and dominate physically. He is already very good on faceoffs and he is a RH shooter, on top of that.

Hey everyone we have these crappy players we don't want who's interested? Oh nobody wants these guys. Do you think people will be lined up to take on guys like that? Really. Those are guys to play in the AHL.
