I still dont get it, nobody would give up a 7th for him?

Does he have a No Trade Clause?

It could be that his GM's are scared off by his contract and declining play the last 2 years. Cap flexibility is at a premium this year, with the cap going down next year. That is a first for the league, and the drop is a big one as well...

This I really can go for. But, being we probably wont get him, thus slot Clowe in his place 'for now'. Also, no way I take Burns off the top line now when he is playing this well with Jumbo and Havlat.

If you put in a claim and get him and Clowe is healthy prior to trade deadline and you move him, that would be fantastic, especially given that we are expecting a first round pick for Clowe.

Then (for the Clowe lovers) if in the offseason nobody wants to overpay for him, we offer him a much cheaper deal and we get him and the draft pick we traded for. As much I want Clowe gone, I wouldn't mind dealing for him and then signing him to be a bottom 6 player in future years. These days, it's all about contracts. For the right contract, I'll have Slowe Clowe on my team.

Yeh true. If he would take a vast paycut and recognize his role as a third line player, i'd like him around as well, specifically for his grit. But, I doubt this to be.

I wouldn't mind keeping Clowe for a different role next season. Maybe sign him @ 2 million a year as an enforcer. He is a leader and can find his game back...

For $2m a year I'd keep Clowe too, but that's a pipe dream. There's a team out there that will give him a raise and we will be priced out of resigning him. I can't imagine he signs for anything less than what he is being paid right now.

Unfortunately this is probably true. Although with the year he is having it will be interesting how much it effects his open market value. In the long run Clowe having a down year might not be the worst thing if we can resign him for a reasonable price. Also now with Murray gone we really need the toughness that Clowe brings, unless we replace that in the off-season.

Strange he cleared oh well. I would take this to mean dw has a gameplan and jussi did not fit into it. Really looks like he's going to let this team sink or swim by the deadline and really might blow things up if they sink. Otherwise I can't understand why he wouldn't add a decent piece for free in an area we need, depth at forward.

I would resign Clowe for a respectable amount. hes a team first guy which the Sharks really need, plus maybe DW can get him for a discount... Yea the guy has had a horrible season, but you could say that for a few other Sharks as well...The guy has to come back to form at some point. I say resign him

I guess Doug Wilson no longer wants centers. Then again, I wonder why no one picked up a guy that has 10 points this season with a FO% of 58%. You'd think that a contender in need of 3rd line scoring would take a chance at him.

Maybe Doug Wilson wants to clear cap space to get a top 6 winger next year.

Doesn't it seem like EVERY time a "name" hits waivers that everyone expects multiple claims to submitted on, they clear 99% of the time?

Wow. Very surprised he cleared. Sure, there's $3m attached to him next year, but that's not an insane over payment, especially if he returns to form.

Lebrun mention he could still be traded if Carolina takes back salary or absorbs some cap hit. Since everyone here seems to want the sharks to buyout Burish, how about Burish for jokinen?

 I don't think Carolina wants Burish who is signed through 15-16. That's one of the issues with Burish. DW handed out a bad contract (IMHO).

But the cap hit is the big snag in a trade. To those saying Carolina can't get a 7th for him, well they can, but the other team probably wants Carolina to eat half his cap hit, and Carolina wants a pure salary dump.

Why the heck would Carolina trade Jokinen for Burish if we're asking them to absorb salary? They're waiving him to save money after the Semin extension and Joker >>>>>> Burish.

Something tells me that it's probably Jokinen's attitude or something. No reason for a team like Carolina, who's pushing for a playoff berth, would just let him go like that, unless his attitude is killing the team.

Lol no suprise there, cap dropping 7 million for over half the league, and a 3 mil cap hit for nothing more then a 3rd liner who has lost his game and you can see why he wasn't claimed.

And also the fact that it always raises huge red flags when a player that was a servicable player in the league for a few years goes onto waivers.

seems a little strange that their GM could not get something for him, if he can still play (read as not hurt) and is decent in the locker room maybe ok if we can't do better. I don't think DW is done yet, kind of depends what else happens and or who we lose and or get in return.

If you think about it, it kind of makes sense.

If a guy is clearly going to be claimed off waivers a team would most likely trade him instead of waving him. A 7th round pick is better than nothing.

If a player gets waived that means a GM either didn't do his homework, or nobody wanted to even give up a crappy pick for him.

While I'm surprised, it actually makes sense.

It certainly makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that everyone comes out of the woodwork to say that so and so is getting claimed when in fact it's far from the truth. It seems to happen enough that you think people would lay off the whole "at least a half dozen teams are submitting claims on so and so" kool-aid.
