Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

Didn’t he have 3 hits last night and the same amount of hits as the great Tom Wilson in game one
Maybe ? He has 4.

The point is, he needs to be better.

Better how?

He helped facilitate both goals in game one. They don’t happen without his disruption in front of the net. People want him to use his size and be physical and that’s exactly what this was.

Game two he had 5 shots, three scoring chances, three hits and was the teams best forward.

Slafkovsky after game 2:

"No, it's exactly what I expected. I've just got to play more physical myself, and just gotta be better" (when asked if the play is more physical than he was expecting the playoffs to be)

Is he wrong to say he needs to be more physical and be better? Is Slafkovsky hating on himself?
Slaf can critize himself but fans on a forum cant lmfao

I don't mind folks criticizing some vets but we should give the kids a pass.

A guy going into his 4th NHL season should get a complete pass for any sort of criticism, when even the player is literally saying the very same things we are?

Why though?

Maybe he doesn't become a mean player. Maybe he becomes a pest a la the worm Corey Perry. Perry is 6'3 200+ lbs.

Slaf can do something with that body and I suspect we won't see it for a couple more years.
That’s not in his DNA either … Slaf is best suited to become a hybrid of John LeClair / Tim Kerr type … a gentle giant who uses big body for puck protection / possession and drive the net for rebounds / setup in low slot for high danger SOG

21 years old, first time in the playoffs on a team that we all know should not be in the playoffs based on the timeline of their rebuild.
Remember a bunch of folks on this site said....this was bonus hockey?

I don't know, in hindsight, yeah, but we've also all said he's a player that should be huge for us in the playoffs, as evidenced by his 2nd half last year.

I think he has not only has another gear he can access, but 3 or 4 higher gears, that he is holding back on...

Playing in Montreal might help bring that out though tomorrow...

Felt like he was the best forward last night either Dvorak and Anderson.

He still makes mistake but many plays dont happen without him and some extended play are a direct product of his work in the offensive zone. You can see he’s putting pieces together.

Not the guy to blame, and honestly not really many to blame on that team. They are hanging out there with the first seed in the East and lost twice by one goal.

Game 82 he was one of the biggest reasons we ended up making the playoffs too.

He was #3 for me (slightly ahead of #4 in Anderson). Dvorak was #2 and Gally was far and away the best for me. He was everywhere. Stealing pucks, creating chances. Gally was flying.

Most players are going to say they need to give more. Interviews in sports are stupid fluff 99% the time. We listen for the "he lose" kind of quotes. But for the most part they say the same generic answers in multiple ways. I don't really think that's as much of a backing point as you think.

I'd bet you with all my money that Monty would tell you he needs to be better too. But he's literally one of the reason's we've been in both games - especially early in Game 2.

You said nothing about 2 hits in 2 games in the post that got you the double facepalm response.
Are the posters here supposed to read your mind what you want to say?
You. need. to. be. better. :)
And he was wrong.

He had 3 hits in game 2. He had 1 hit in game 1, the same as the big powerful Tom Wilson who makes everyone shake in their boots.

He also has 9 shots in two games against the caps. Both goals in game 1 don't happen without him disrupting in front of the net. He had 5 shots in game 2 and three scoring chances.

The expectations are silly right now. But he made a couple of misreads so he sucks. Because Caufield, Nick, Hutson don't make misreads or bad passes. They are perfect.

Crazy that this needs to be explained to people lol

"Going into his 4th season"

"a COMPLETE pass on ANY SORT of criticism"

Talk about a bloated strawman.

Seems intentional on your part to justify a pre-existing narrative.

But, regardless, the answer remains the same and just as valid... Context.

Slaf is performing well. No athlete is perfect and therefore free of "any sort" of criticism.

Your specific critique is weak and shows a poor understanding of the context.

But enjoy the straw lol

You’re doing a lot of heavy lifting here and it’s appreciated.

Slaf's been great. Not sure what you yahoos are complaining about.

Young kid, contributing in peripheral ways on the first line against a better opponent. Sure, he wants to be better than what he thought he was, EVERY player would say the same thing. How many guys go on camera after a loss and say "Ya, I played amazing and couldn't do anything else".

Ah, so he can only be critiqued based on certain official approved criteria?

Slaf has X amount of points at Y age therefore we're not allowed to talk about Z?

I wasn't aware there were rules to this.

I'd love to know what we're allowed to critique him on, please share.

Slaf has been playing well. People who are saying otherwise, I question if they actually watched the game or if they just wanted to observe through jaded lenses.

There are a couple of people on the team who can get criticized for their play, Slaf was not one of them

I question the people who say he's playing so amazing and everything is sunshine and rainbows.

Put those rose colored glasses down every so often, it will do you good.

The most recent and glaringly obvious disaster was Slaf's play before the Caps scored their 1st goal. It's a perfect illustration of how frustrating it is when Slaf is just floating and not engaged/fully committed.
