Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

His play on Caps first goal was absolutely shameful.

Just hovering, pretending to do something but not actually doing anything at all.

Doesn't actually hit, he just touches people like a giant wet noodle.

But of course 50% of people here keep saying "He's only 21, he's only 21..." Okay so let's keep waiting I guess....
I could come up with a long list of 20 years old players (cause Slaf was 20 for most of the year) who were very far from their prime but that would be a waste of time.

He can definitely be better.

I actually get the criticisms of him for the most part.

But singling him out so far is…weird. He was getting chances and implicated plenty.

It’s not that the criticisms are invalid, they’re just over amplified. While most of his positives seem widely ignored.

Even that being said I get a CERTAIN amount of criticism. He does certain things I don’t like.
Agreed. Despite my earlier comment about liking his game last night, it's true he made some stupid plays sometimes, but ffs, the guy is 20. He certainly is not McDavid or Crosby, and as a 1OA that may be why it rattles some fans around here, but I hope he develops with the positive plays and the negative disappear in a few seasons.

No personal attacks against other posters.

Keep it strictly to talking about hockey, the players, etc.

Thanks.

That was literally his only bad shift in whole game and absolutely shameful was David Savard in that play.
He was the best player on that line, Caufield was totally abused by Caps and Suzuki was just erased.

I edited my post. But you pretended a just turned 21 years old player is in his prime which we all know for a fact is factually wrong in fact among all facts. So i'd say you are not talking about hockey either.

Thank you.

I did say "Okay so let's keep waiting I guess...." so I am waiting.

I'm not EXTREMELY hopeful or optimistic given his skill level and the fact that he's already going into his 4th NHL season, but not I'm not writing him off completely either or calling him a bust.

Until he gets traded or signs elsewhere or whatever else may happen, I will remain hopeful, but I would love to see something in the meantime...

The most frustrating part is you have a player who could be dominant but he often chooses the easy play, or to not engage at all, or to do it half-assed (i.e instead of hitting he will just smother someone like a giant wet noodle).

I wanna see the same passion he has on the bench and in the media, on the actual ice level in the game.

He needs to play tougher play stronger go to net with and without the pucks
Stay with his check and 20 or whatever he is strong enuff to tie up his opponent and won battles

Just a matter of if he wants to or not

That you can't "see something" right now is very odd.

Relative to the rest of the NHL both now and historically, he's already showing something quite rare and special.

It would appear that the issue is moreso your lens rather than what he's quite objectively displaying on the ice.

Why bother with facts or evidence when responding to posters that prefer to throw around ungrounded takes based on pure fantasy and pettiness, and then rush to cry victim when their empty takes are called out for the trash that they are....

As they say, haters gonna hate

What is he showing that is so rare and special?

You either consider him Wickenheiser or Daigle or you don’t. You are in the playoffs with Wickenheiser and Daigle, you know who Slaf is already. Now do you bench him? What do you do? Is this a nagfest with nothing constructive?

How many of them 21 year olds were 1st overalls with 60m committed to their upcoming contract?

They’re in denial of this. They pretend his bad games are part of growing up (and therefore shields him from criticism) and his good games are part of who he is today and his massive contract extension is irrelevant. Whatever happens, Slaf is perfect and the haters are haters.

Start with the simple and direct point production at his age.
This thread is infuriating. For Laine, it’s sit him 5 on 5, play him on the 1st or 2nd PP, bench him or…. This thread is just “ah, ah, f*** that guy” I don’t consider Slaf, Daigle but assuming he is, when the Sens made the playoffs with Daigle. They didn’t go: “let’s forfeit the playoffs, so we can hate full time on Daigle!” This thread starts and finishes there.

I'm honestly not sure what you're asking in this post. Can you clarify?

What does Wickenheiser/Daigle have to do with Slafkovsky?

I also don't think he should be benched.
