Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

Glad to see you are a deep thinker Mr. Hugo!

The main boards are all over the fact that we could have had a Michkov - Cooley - Demidov line. Who the hell knows what that would have looked like?

If Slaf ends up a 60-70 point power forward who leads us in hits.....those types of players don't grow on trees and are essential for playoff hockey.
Probably frequent ER visits and time on IR.

That would be an insane line lmao.

I like Slaf but

I am always surprise to read that everybody sees a power forward with Slaf...

I mean for his size I am sorry but Slaf is not strong at all...

Pound for pound I mean..a dude like Lane Hutson is way stronger on the ice and I am dead serious....

Slaf is still young but..the dude is already 21 and I never seen him delivers big bodychecks at all. He never stunned anyone with a check

In fact his weight transfer from his hips is awful when he is trying to hit somebody.

The dude said 2 months ago that he has to have that Tkachuk mindset...I mean come on ..when you are at your third season and you have to convince yourself that way...

He is gonna be an important second line player for us but I dont see a real power forward

Well kid, theres a new stud in town

It'll probably only help Slaf as the pressure will actually shift away from him ffs lol lucky bastard

But still.. try to be better kiddo lol, please, for me

Honestly, give me a physical 60 point Slaf (25 goals) and I’d say yes. I’m fine with that. I’m hoping this year is just an off year.
Huh? He's basically there. He's on pace for 53 points over 82 games, while being fairly responsible defensively and leading his team in hits.

It doesn't make sense to be fine with production like that which is well within a margin of error.

He still makes a lot of young player mistakes and hasn't been able to bring his pace. He does, but in spurts. He's still a good puck retriever, does a lot of the dirty work and feeds great passes. It's just that he can do more, much more. We've seen it, he's a dominant force when he's on.

The 25 goals is missing and he may lead in hits but doesn’t truly play like a power forward.

I hope one day he'll play just as much with his body than with the tip of hockey stick....the guy screams Guillaume Latendresse/Pierre Dagenais....type of guy that wishes he'd be 5'10''....

More than that I want Michkov to show us tonight how dumb we were not to pick him.
He really showed us. He could mentor Slaf instead of shooting 1 or 2 times against a good team, how to have a total of 0 shots, 0 hits and otherwise be completely useless. Boy did we really miss out. We really could have used a guy like that last night.

He's got 2 points, 1 goal and 10 shots in his last 6 games. Demidov in his 1st game at 19 years old, 5 days after landing on Canadian soil had 3 shots. He has 131 shots on the season playing 17 minutes a night on the 1st line. He has less shots than last year, and didn't even average 2 shots per game this season. For comparison, Kotkaniemi had 128, 129 and 108 shots the past 3 years playing 3rd line minutes.

What really worries me is if he has the same type of character and attitude that kotkaniemi has. Everyone told him to shoot more, he thought he knew better and never listened to anyone. Slafkovsky better start listening.

I love how it’s crickets from the Michkov cultists on the mains now because they can’t blame Torts anymore lmao

As if 60 points as a 20 YO rookie was a bad thing lol
No, but there’s a huge contrast between the results vs the dialogue from those same posters that went on until a few months ago. They had him pegged as an 80-100 point player this season, and they blamed Torts for him not being that. Turns out it wasn’t Torts; it’s that he’s an inconsistent 20 year old rookie.

It’s also clear that Demidov is a notch above.

Comparing Slaf and Carlsson is indeed ridiculous. Don’t get too worked up over it, Habs fans tend to overrate Habs players and undervalue other talent on other teams. The two of them are nowhere close to each other in terms of on ice value or long term trajectory.
(Mod) The dude hasn't even broken 30 hits in a season and is scoring less than Slaf but you try to pull your usual unearned smugness. Typical pompous paragraph posting sophist.

Leo Carlsson had 29pts in 55gp (43pt pace) in his rookie season and plays C. Slafkovsky had 10pts in 39gp (21pt pace) in his rookie season and does not play C.

Leo Carlsson has 44pts in 75gp (48pt pace) in his sophomore season and plays C. Slafkovsky had 50pts in 82gp in his sophomore season and does not play C.

Their net +/- after two years, Carlsson -4, Slafkovsky -32.

It's clear which one is the more valuable player playing a more valuable position so far in their young careers. Which was was carried by Suzuki for all his success and which one has to carry the broken down Alex Killorn?

I don't suspect anyone would disagree that Carlsson would be picked ahead of Slafkovsky if they were in the same draft year -- in fact it was often repeated to insulate Slaf from critical comparisons.

Keep your insults tucked in your mouth, it's unbecoming and unnecessary. Stick to talking hockey.
Slaf would destroy Carlsson 1v1, why don't you just go post on the Carlsson thread?

Oh it's because there's none.
