That just comes with confidence and experience. He’s doing exactly what the coaches want him to do on the PP. The problem, and that goes for the rest of the guys on the PP, is that they should take what’s given to them. Right now it’s just everyone looking for Laine, and when he’s covered, they look like shit.

The 5 on 3 against the Avs was the perfect example. Looking for a specific play and they just shoot themselves in the foot.

That 5 on 3 sucked, they tried to force every pass through 2 sticks instead of trying to move the sticks and the triangle.

If he replicates that individual effort goal he scored last game but in the playoffs… in a game 7… in OT… the bell centre roof will explode

I can't wait until Demidov gets here beause he will probe and play fast.
I watch Suzuki and I often wish they'd find some other player to gain the zone.
He should be using all that energy he expends moving in the Ozone.

Hutson should be doing the zone entry anyway.. I look forward to the day that Demidov is doing the zone entries.

I agree Hutson has a far better recovery rate than Suzuki.
If they want to use Suzuki on both waves I'm all for it but they should be looking for ways to conserve his energy.
We need him to have it mostly for the O zone obviously.

There was a play on PP 3-4 games ago where Suzuki was on the right faceoff dot and Slaf forced his way in the blue paint as a tip option for a tap in. Now that's a use that fits with his attributes. I wish we'd attempt this play more often, that's the only real time I recall see this with his new role as netfront

Just like us believers told you all along , it's a project , you don't obtain a baby horse and expect it to win the Kentucky derby before it learns how to stand up.

We taught him to breathe

We taught him to use his eyes

He just figured out how to shoot a hockey puck 3 weeks ago.

Cut the baby horse some slack , he is growing.


His development is right on track

Imagine if he continue to use his size and shot like that, total beast in 2 years. This guy at 22-23 years old, will be a another level. No doubt in my mind that he will be the second best forward behind Demidov in this team.

Indeed Slafs last two tip ins were carbon copies. Struble was the one who made the great play by simply moving the puck to the net immediately off Suzuki feeds. Truth be told this is the first season we've seen set plays being executed properly that being one of them.

He only had 5 points in his first 29 games last season so it’s kind of deceiving to use the argument that beating last seasons points total is an accomplishment. Had he played at the level he played at the final 50 games last year all season, he would’ve been in the 60-70 points range. He’s had an inconsistent year this season but I think we’ll see him put it altogether sooner rather than later. This season has been a bit of a step back overall but nothing serious imo.

7 points in his first 29 and 11 in his 31st. I agree with most of the rest but firmly disagree with the 'step back' idea. If he didn't get stuck with Dach for a portion of the season, and the PP strategy had him touching the puck more he'd be on pace for around 60.

He (along with Suzuki and Caufield) are top-50 in 5v5 P/60. His relative stats are across the board better (albeit playing slightly more frequently with Caufield and Suzuki).

I agree that there isn't much of an argument for a step back, but people were hoping for a major step forward and at best there has been a slight step forward overall. Which is disappointing.

I think people were just more disappointed with his play in the first half. It was like a completely different player came to Montreal from last season. He's started to play like he did (hence the 'second half Slaf' nickname) and people are more on board with the player he looks like now.

I don't mind a small step forward, or even a status quo (from last year) year, as long as there is no regression. A regression or continuing his first half play the rest of the year with that big extension kicking in would have been really, really bad.

Slaf will be the player we all wanted in Andrei Kostitsyn, shooter, passer, with great hands, great physical ability.

He will put the numbers I wanted to see with AK46, 30-35 goals per year, 70-80 pts + per year.

Slaf is super talented, with all his protection of puck, physical and two-way tools, that's will worth more than his 7,6 millions per year.

2022 draft have been not the best ever in NHL history, but for Habs?!?! Adding players like Slaf and Hutson, that's very very hugeeee.

Yep, just need some patience, a guy like Cooley may come out the gate looking more nhl ready, but once slaf figures out how to use his 230lbs effectively game in game out, hes going to be an absolute beast for us.
