Oh look, the thread has no activity during a period where he’s playing his best hockey.

The detractors (and I’m being generous with my wording) really have made following Slaf’s development a miserable experience
Have no fear (or have fear?), they will come back as soon as his next down game.

He needs 3 assists and 4 goals to equal last year. It's doable.

Are you betraying your own conviction and have started micro-analyzing Slaf's game-by-game development, my dude?

Did you copy and paste this from the Dach thread? JK.
Dach hasn't been scored on in weeks!

No because I’m not a weirdo like some in this thread.

I like the way Slaf has been playing as a whole, and I don’t get suicidal because he has a string of bad games like 99% of players in the league
You didn't post after either of his two previous games, which could generously be called "bad games" by any fair commentator. Why are you grandstanding about the so-called haters right now when you're doing the exact same thing?

Why the hell would I post over two bad games? Do I post when any other player has two bad games? No. Neither do you. But you do it for Slaf because you have some weird obsession or you’re just incapable of pivoting from a claim you made about him before you watched him play a single f***ing game. Or worse both.

I’m also laughing that I didn’t even mention your name in my post above but you came here within seconds to whine. You’ve single-handedly made following Slaf completely shit.

Grow up

Him showing up for half the season is an issue, especially considering this time it took longer for him to get going.

He's going to have bad games/bad stretches, but he needs to limit those by regularly giving a f***.

The one bright spot is he was still producing, at least with assists when he was in his doesn't care/forgot how to play hockey/whatever he does in the first half to be all that effective of a player.

He’s 20 and drafted as a project. He’s still learning. It’s all about expectations.

The majority of young players have to learn to be consistent.

You're right that it is not about production necessarily. His season projection has slightly changed from slightly below 50pts to slightly above 50pts. The stats are a function of his performance (and other things) and it is his performance that has markedly improved overall. Obviously though, it is a good thing he is on track to finish with more points than last year.

Even at the exact same production, I'd rather a good producer making good decisions than a good producer making bad decisions and many mistakes. Look at how much criticism is heaped on Patrik Laine right now -- he's producing but it's agonizing sometimes. In the recent interview Hughes spoke specifically about Slaf's development (and he called him "very stubborn"), I think they have been trying to imprint onto him the things he has to do to achieve success and Slaf's in the process of adapting his game. Whether it'll succeed or not is in the air -- projects aren't guaranteed to succeed -- but it's neat to see Slaf's good games in contrast to his bad games. It's like night and day.

you admit to not even watching full games. you're talking about fair commentators? such a fraud.

"Where are the haters now? Hmm? /smirk" comments are bottom of the barrel. Not even redditors would tolerate it.

As you were.

Its always been about the type of player Slaf is going to be.

As a 20 year old guy playing in his 3rd NHL season, the complete package is getting clearer for me. The bumps in the path to becoming that player have been expected and are part of his growth.

He will be in his prime a dominant power forward.

Through a revisionist lense.....we won't give a damn if it should have been him or Cooley once Slaf hits that peak. The debate will likely go on for their careers.

All the bickering back and forth about this guy is exhausting.

I noticed a certain avatar in this thread and had to have a look at that players stats for his early career.

Age 19 year = 65 games - 38 points
Age 20 year = 76 games - 56 points
Age 21 year = 48 games - 28 points
Age 22 year = 81 games - 58 points

Age 28 year = 79 games - 95 points

Different styles but interesting development curve from our past star.

Kovalev's first playoffs were incredible and bought him a lot of hype and respect but even so, the Rangers didn't keep him because he didn't seem to step up enough -- he only became The Alexei Kovalev when he joined his second team. By the time he joined the Habs he was past-his-prime and it was his fourth transaction and third team. We don't want that for Slafkovsky but no one will deny that "late" development bumps exist... the problem is they're often associated with roster transactions and new environments.

After being super active in Slaf threads previously, I’ve generally avoided it this year.

Don’t let the detractors get to you man, Slaf’s development is right on track and continuing the trend upwards.

Eventually they’ll move on to their next target.

You might want to listen to the Kent Hughes interview on the Frankly Speaking podcast this week from the GM meetings. Hughes is adamant that there is no doubt that Slaf gives a f*** and puts more pressure on himself than anyone could ever put on him. He also goes into why his play has improved in the 2nd half this season.

Development progress is never linear and the kid is learning.

I don't agree with framing Slaf as someone who doesn't care either. It seems objectively wrong.

I think his issues are more that he seems very stubborn by all accounts (both a good and bad thing) and is in his head too much when things aren't going the right way.

His game is being physical, overpowering the opposition in puck battles and getting the garbage goals. They're the goals that translate to the playoffs. Everyone wants to snipe like Matthews, but even Matthews with the best snap shot in history can't do shit in the playoffs, because the game ramps up its physicality and every team protects the slot like it's trench warfare.

Do you think a GM is going to come out and say that a player he signed to a long-term contract is anything negative?

The answer is obviously no.

Do you think a player can go out there and do shitty passes and not hustle, or even throw a body check game in, game out for a handful of games is a player that "cares" ?

Not saying he doesn't care at all, but there's way too many games where he's floating out there.

You're right, progression isn't linear, however you don't come in and be meh for half, or almost half the season, play well and then suck again at the start of the season again and then get it going again.

Him not being able to get things going isn't "progession isn't linear", it's an issue and hope he can be better in the first half of the season next year. That would be progression.

Slaf really thrives against fast, talented and somewhat soft teams like the Avs. He can keep up with the level of play while dominating strength-wise. On his second goal, he looked like their kryptonite

He's really good at deflecting too (as is Suzuki), I swear it's a fourth to a third of his goals this season. With a player like Hutson who has a very precise but weakish shot, it's a perfect combo. Could work well with Reinbacher who's good at getting his shots to the net

2nd half of season by Slaf is amazing. Like last year. But this year, they play for the playoffs.

If Slaf can bring his 2nd half of season in the beginning, he is going to put great numbers next year.

Everyone should be happy with his production last and this year, 50 pts in 82 and now 43 pts in 66 games, that's not bad at all.

I'm very confident since the draft day, that he is going to reach 70-80 pts per season, maybe more if he continue to be consistent every game and use his size, speed, shot etc...

Everything work perfectly with Slaf at this moment of his career, 103 pts in 187 games, that's sound really good. He will up his numbers, for sure. But for a young powerforward, so far, that's a great beginning of career.
