In friendly game Lithuania beat Slovenia 2:0. Great job for LTU. I have soft spot for Lithuania, because their hockey in terms of infrastructure and domestic "league" is somewhat on Croatian level yet they are managing to be D2A/D1B nation, while we soon will be relegated to D3A.

Start of the IIHF U20 World championship D1A today.
Germany was stunned by Kazakhstan, who won 3-2 in overtime. Gawanke tied it at 2 with about 1'15" left but it wasn't enough in this fairy evened game.

France currently leads 3-1 vs Austria, with Louis Boudon scoring 2 and Hugo Sarlin 1. Texier is pointless but not by lack of effort. He has 2-3 good scoring chances, finishes his checks and dangles very well. Overall, very good game by the French side, very good defensively. Austria doesn't show a lot despite a good positionning overall. Lack of mobility, speed and creativity, IMO.

But that's impossible. The federation told me that there is a direct correlation between being small and being fast, and there is a direct correlation between being short and high hockey IQ :sarcasm:

1st point for Texier, who set up Sarlieve for an open net. 4-1 France.
Rossi is very good for Austria, a lot of speed.
Interesting. That's not usually something people notice him for but if you have the right jersey number then his father will be super happy, good mark of improvement.

And it's now 6-1, Bougro deflecting with a blade a Guebey shot from the blue line.
Lots of chances before and after that. Holzer is under siege and it could be ugly without him.

Think about it this way. All the media coverage pre-tourney was about if we could avoid relegation. In the literal interview before the start of the tournament the coach said "it will all come down to the Hungary game".

Yikes, well Hungary seems to be no slouch either, since they almost tied the game with us before we scored 2 unaswered goals.

I'm trying to be optimistic but it's difficult. On average we give up 6 cm and 8 kg to Hungary. Systemic issues and problems of misperception really taking their toll.

Thank you to Belizarius and kabidjan for all of the coverage. Glad to see Boudon pick up a couple. Saw him play early in the year here, thought he was a terrific little player.
