Of course Yankees fans are in love with Stanton after the postseason he had but facts are facts and stats are stats. He's been a complete albatross and a complete waste of payroll over the course of the contract and it's not like he's got only 1 year left or something. This is why I said 'sensible' Yankees fan. You could get such a better player or players for that $20-30mil per year

This is honestly crazy talk. Yankees are trying to win a WS the next couple of years and as bad as stanton's general WAR and impact in the regular season might've been in recent years, he's still one of the most feared hitters to have to face in the postseason. The guy always shows up, again career .994 OPS, not sure how many times it needs repeating. Yankees have the guys to carry them through the regular season.

Yankees and their fans want his bat in October. If they didn't have Stanton this past postseason, they are likely out again KCR.

There are several other players NYY would try to jettison before Stanton to free up some space and who are worse and more negative in value. DJ Lemehieu @ 15M is totally washed and all dead money. Marcus Stroman too. Anthony Rizzo etc.

For Stanton's money you can get someone who is good in the regular season and postseason and isn't clogging up DH only spot.

No one is arguing that G is great in the postseason but you can't pay someone that kind of money who is injured all the time and bats like league average over the past 3 seasons.

He's 35 and he's very much likely not getting healthier or better overall. Yes, when he's on a heater he's a bat that should be feared but smart money is not on that happening more often than not over the next few years.

Think of it this way, you could probably take that money and trade for and sign Vladdy Jr. to long term extension (if he agreed to it and fully walks back all the no yankees stuff). Or think of someone similar to that. You could sign a Bregman type player and have money left over. These players are undoubtedly better and more valuable than G at this stage in the game. It's lunacy to think spending this kind of money on Stanton makes any sense.

Stanton has 172 career postseason plate appearances and has had plenty of bad postseason series. His vaunted postseason clutchiness is just small sample size.

$600 - $660 million for Soto?! That's crazy. he's great but he doesn't have the marketing appeal of Ohtani yet he will make nearly as much as him. $450 - $500 million should have been enough.
Soto is entering his age 26 season, Ohtani was entering his age 29 season in year 1 of the contract. It's incredibly rare that a franchise player type talent is available in FA at that age. That's why Soto is going to get 600 M+.

Stanton is terrible, Yankees would be much better off without him.

But he was great these last playoffs
