Rumor: Just Kidding! Pettersson and JT Miller Trade Reunion!

Everybody seems to think that the Rangers are the only team now, well sure, that’s a possibility, and it’s also a possibility that his trade value just dropped even more.

But what nobody seems to be mentioning is how in a weird way this could increase the value of JT Miller, because that’s one less big fish on the market, and also Colorado might be looking for a centre just like jt Miller , which adds them to the fray.

Not to mention, this could start some sort of arms race as well, teams might start to panic.

Just a thought
Possibly. But Rantanen wasn't on or topping most trade boards I've seen. So I don't know how much he was expected to really be on the market as a missed opportunity for those other teams.

Assuming Miller will waive for non east coast teams (arguably even any non tri state area teams) feels like wishful thinking.

So whats the deal? Is it potential locker room issues? term?
Why hasn't he been moved or why have the offers been so bad?

And none of that matters if Miller won’t waive his NMC to go there.

I don’t know why Canucks fans keep ignoring the NMC and assume that Miller would waive anywhere that offers a good package for Miller.
Exactly. Waiting until the off-season doesn't magically cause Miller to open up his destinations. Seems like wish casting. I say this as a Rangers fan that doesn't want Miller.

It's widely speculated that he's been a locker room cancer for years now, dating back to before the Bubble season. Bruce Boudreau and Brad Richardson have both publicly commented that Miller and Pettersson have had a toxic relationship for a long time and it's clearly boiling to a head. It was thought by fans that there was a locker room divide between Horvat and Miller, so by trading the former you were solving the issue, but it's pretty clear the real issue is and always has been Miller.

Management has moved out several key veterans over the years who were most likely keeping things from truly boiling over (Tanev, Markstrom, Toffoli, Schenn, Cole, Zadorov etc.) With nobody around to keep Miller in check, as "the emotional leader" he's been put in a position to drive the room by Tocchet but it appears he has also soured that relationship to the point where they've publicly displayed signs of it. His whole LOA thing was framed by the Canucks as a "mental health reset" but it's been clear to anyone paying attention that Miller overstepped to someone in management about being benched despite Pettersson's mediocre performance at a higher cap hit.

In short - great player when he's on, disaster when he's not. He needs to be in a controlled environment, playing under someone like MacKinnon who is a similar fiery-type leader but would not put up with any of Miller's bullshit. That's where he will truly thrive. The Canucks simply don't work in that type of an environment, and it's been this way since the Benning years.

the whole canes thing seems likely to have been have been tulsky using miller as a stalking horse for getting the best price on rantanen. notice there was absolutely zero leakage about the latter and much about the former. the canucks are supposed to run a tight ship so where did the leaks come from and why? did the canes leak it, but not rantanen. did the canucks leak it with tulsky's ok?

if you want to go tinfoil hat, maybe canucks were returning the favour to the canes from them stepping up last year in the pettersson stand off.

but, in general, canucks are just getting dummied on all fronts this season. the last best hope is that miller blows everyone's doors off in the 4 nations cup. otherwise, an ugly trade is coming.

People change their minds all the time though. It’s possible that the longer things linger the less picky he becomes. It also allows for the possibility that a team he would go to that isn’t interested now might become interested based on how other things play out for that team.

I wonder what locker room cancer means. He's bully's Pettersson? He slept with his girl? I always wonder what that means.

Canes can still take any of the following from Vancouver and still be 100% ok this year

Miller 8mil
Miller Demko 13mil
Petey 11.6 mill
Petey Demko 16.6 mil

They have 9.5 in dumpable cap with Hall and Andersen alone
then theres JK at 4.8mil or Roslovic at 2.8mil
still a boat load of prospects besides Nishkin and almost all of their picks for the next couple years

and yes, they can afford Rantanen at 14mil with all of those options except maybe Petey and Demko

Its the same as assuming he will only wave to NYR.

It does actually. More teams have cap space to attempt a trade and are no longer worried about the team dynamics for that year.
A team that loses a star unwilling to resign as a example.

There is significantly more reasons to believe that Miller will limit the locations that he can be traded, both based on rumors we’ve heard plus how pretty much every other player with a NMC acts.

Even if it’s not NYR or no one, it’s most likely at most 4-5 teams he’d allow a trade to. And there’s no guarantee those 4-5 teams would want him.

Well, well, well, how the turntables have...turned.

It's either New York or Miller will spend all his time in Stanley Park telling any pigeon who will listen that Elias Pettersson is the Antichrist.

Lindgren for JT Miller, 75% retained. Done and done.
you can only retain 50% so you'd need a 3rd team

lindgren to vancouver, miller to the rangers, willander and vancouver's first to the kraken to retain the extra 25% on miller for 7 years
Dumb and dumber.

Only on HF Boards eh.

I have to wonder if there was largely overlapping pieces in a potential Miller deal.amd the Rantanen deal.

Like did a decision come down to Drury+2nd+4th and then we add Kotkaniemi for Miller, or we add Necas for Rantanen.

I know the Canes shot down including Necas in any miller trade, but the bolded seems like a very underwhelming offer for JTM.

Someone reported that “almost everyone” (paraphrasing) was made available to the Canes so it’s possible the overlapping pieces were part of a package for EP

It makes more sense to trade EP.

He's the worse player, that will bring back a bigger return

His age isn't any more helpful to Hughes current contract, and he's not so young that you can wait until McDavid, Drai and Mackinnon fall off to have a shot at the Finals.

“Trade both”

I’m sorry that is the dumbest speculation in history

Clearly someone who doesn’t know the nature of Vancouvers owner

This is a team that Kept Tanner Franking Pearson at the deadline and gave him an extension yet they were eliminated from the playoffs.
