Rumor: JTM Trade Thread: Why did JT Miller bring a suitcase to practice?

I'm going on record saying that if the Canucks trade JT Miller during the season it will be looked back on as a terrible trade for them and everyone will call their management impatient and shortsighted.

The time to trade Miller is in the offseason when more teams can make cap space for him and the Canucks can weigh their options.

The absolutely terrible offers being floated out there from the Rangers, including the sentiment that they're looking for "the lowest offer the Canucks would accept" has all the makings of a trade where people look back and say "that's where Allvin and Rutherford lost their jobs" ... even if they do last another year or so after the trade.

That's simply a management decision if they think the season is salvageable.

Curious what the hold up is?

Vancouver wants too much for a soon to be 32 year old malcontent that is not having a great year and is signed for a lot of money and a lot of years.

This doesn't matter if Miller only wants to go to a select few teams, which seems to be the case.

He has a full NMC and we've seen time and time again that players will full NMCs bring back greatly depreciated returns to only specific teams. Canucks fans should remember this well with what happened with the Kesler to Anaheim deal.

I feel that Miller is simply not as attractive of an asset as what Canucks fans in here think he is.

I watched their game last night and oooof. For a team to be where they are and not show up like that says a lot. And no MCdavid on top of that ouch..

Dragging this out is not helping. If the Canucks are going to trade one of them they should do it now. If this goes on longer I can see the value going down by the day.

The mistake was trading him in the first place. As a f***ing throw-in.

As a throw-in yeah. But I’m pretty sure Miller himself said that it took the trade to Vancouver to make him realize he wasn’t taking hockey nearly seriously enough. He was “fine” in NY, and then “fine” in Tampa. It was only after going to Vancouver that he pulled himself up into the elite tier

According to the mix of rumors in Vancouver... and I think I've explained it as if you are 5 or esl..

Miller yell at Petey.. Petey Cry
Tocchet yell at Miller for make Petey cry.
Miller yell back!
Miller destroy Tocchet office door and throw out the window.
Tocchet now hate Miller.. Miller go on leave.
Petey play good because bully gone, everyone hate Miller. Petey Yay.
Miller come back and sucks, buy Petey gets scared again and also sucks. Boo Petey
Team sucks.
Team tries to trade Miller.. Bissonette talks to owner to block trade.
Bissonette say Miller soooo good y u want to trade.
Owner blocks trade, thinks he know best and is fantasy gm with real team again.
Team f***ed
RIP Demko
Poor Hughes

my favourite undertold part of this story is that 6 days before the shit publicly hit the fan with miller taking a leave of absence in november, kesler showed up in vancouver and after 11 years of silence gave an interview about how much he regrets how things went down when he forced the team to trade him to only one team and how his best years were as a canuck and he wishes he could retire as a canuck.

i guess miller wasn't impressed about kesler's advice on how to handle trade requests and playing with slightly autistic swedish forwards.

Friedman doing his I wonder gimmick with Ottawa and JT Miller. (And himself and one of the cast of Friends, hint, not Matt LeBlanc.)

I don't think in a million years it would seriously happen, but the only thing that makes sense would be Norris for Miller.

Canucks fans should remember this well with what happened with the Kesler to Anaheim deal.

Canucks fans will also remember that Kesler limited trade options to 1 team, only adding a second late in the process. Miller hasn't done that.

Also Vancouver got a decent return from Anaheim, it's just that Jim Benning is a moron and picked Luca Sbisa.

We have seen numerous reports that have suggested he has, though. I don't know it's for sure, but the idea that Miller is just good with going wherever offers the best trade package isn't based on anything.

We assume Carolina has Miller's OK based on Carolina having permission to talk to Miller/his agent.

We don't know if Miller has signed off on being dealt to Carolina or if Carolina received permission to try and convince him to sign off.

NMC limits it. Canucks got to find a team that is offering a piece they can use now and teams who are on Millers's list will circle around like vultures to take advantage. It's not an easy situation nor is it an impossible one.

It's hard to believe that they can't figure this out internally. I know players clash at times but come on guys. This is deeper than Miller vs Pettersson... if the Canucks were winning and in the playoffs, this fades quickly

Im a big jt miller fan. Id love to see the rangers add him…but only at the right price. What i’d personally have on the table would probably cause many canuck fans to explode. It’s not personal, it has nothing to do with not being aware of the player jt miller has been and could potentially be, or believing that a prospective offer would be equivalent to him in market value. It would simply be keeping in line with the market precedent, which is unmistakably clear. High cap hit players with term and over 30/malcontents/both return underwhelming value relative to what that player might be today. This isn’t jack eichel or matthew tkachuk hitting the market in their mid 20s.
Let’s see that offer

It feels more like management has re-evaluated the team and doesn’t believe they can contend in Miller’s window of his best remaining years and as a result are looking to change on the fly, add some futures and dump Miller’s cap hit now and reinvest elsewhere.

I'm confused because I hear other fans say they want a proven piece now so they can remain competitive. What's the truth? 1/1 or 2/1 flip (proven NHL players) or a futures based offer?

Is there any rumor to what teams Miller is open to? I think this is very important to know for us fans who are acting like GM's looking for fair deals.

I think they probably want someone closer in age to Hughes/Pettersson/Hronek. That’s likely not coming from a contender but maybe pick(s) can be flipped for that? Issue is that the team is fighting for a playoff spot so they’re probably not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

East coast American teams is the best guess.

Philly gets an offensive boost with a more recent high offensive output track record in Miller. Philly's leadership starts to transition to a younger guard with the likes of Konecny/Laughton/Sanhiem/Tippett. Miller at 1C with high offensive production can put less stress on Frost to produce offensively.

Vancouver gets a defensively responsible C who's had injuries derail production in recent years with a similar contract and age. Couturier can play 2C behind a more offensive 1C compared to playing 2C behind Frost who's offensive production hasn't been and proven to be a true 1C yet.

I think Vancouver takes slightly more risk with Courtier's recent injury history vs. Miller's drama. This risk is offset in a defensive prospect in Bonk. Philly's also decent defensive prospect depth with Andrae, McDonald, Gill, Grans. Some of which have had some looks at the NHL level already. I don't see Philly parting ways with a York or Drysdale to facilitate this type of move. Maybe Zamula?
JTM isnt waiving for Philly
