Both have played close to the same amount of games while they were both Canucks, so who was the better player from 2019-2025? This will omit Petterson's rookie season. Consider everything from peak play, to consistency, etc.

Miller and it's not really that close. Pettersson very talented but isn't made of the right stuff to be the go to guy. Much like Naslund and the Sedins before him these are players that like to win more than they hate to lose.

Pettersson easily has the higher peak. His offense has had the lowest valleys though. Petey has had extended periods of consistently bad offensive production while Miller is way more reliable scoring wise, but is wildly inconsistent defensively. He will go all out one shift and then just stand around and give up on a play the next. Unironically Miller has won the Canucks more games while a Canuck but also lost us way more games than Petey has since Petey, at his worst, is a great defensive player and possession guy.

So on the ice its pretty clearly Miller. If we include off the ice... while people have been quoted as saying Miller was really important (in the positive sense) in the locker room, this is his third straight team with a bad exit and while the Canadian media is real unfair about propagating rumours, Miller clearly caused a ton of problems with others over the years. All of them cant be false given his track record and history. Hes the common denominator in all the locker room issues that have existed.

Overall I'd say its a wash, Miller being a bigger negative off the ice and a bigger positive on the ice, but people shouldnt forget that Petey's peak is a level Miller just doesnt have and it includes consistent 200 ft defensive play that you cant rely on Miller for. No idea how the Nucks will replace Miller's clutch offense and the good parts of his leadership though. Going to be a mess.

Miller has been the better player but he was the right player to move, I dunno how the offer they got was the best because I swear they had 5-6 teams interested, however I still think they made the right move to keep Pettersson over Miller but wew that return.

Over their shared tenure? Miller by a mile.

Higher peak, higher floor, more consistent. This was always JT and Hughes core.

EP never separated himself from the pack.

Both were very up and down. People forget two years ago Miller was arguably the laughing stock of the league. There were so many threads on this very site about him and his toxic behaviour. Breaking his stick over his own goalies net, screaming “F***!!!” on the ice so loud your neighbour could hear it through the tv. It’s not just Pettersson who was up and down.

JT Miller was the better player in 5 of the 6 seasons they played together.

He was the better player in the playoffs.

The answer is Miller, easily.

What exactly do you think his peak is?

Breaking his stick over his own goalie's net is a no no. But is screaming f*** really something noteworthy other than the guy being frustrated? I'm sure we all do it during the game multiple times, lol. This is sports not the opera.

JT by a mile.

Heart and soul type of player.

But judging by his play this season you can tell he doesn’t want to be here, after coming back from his time off he looked uninterested.

I hope Petey can step it up if it is injury (tendinitis) slowing his play down I hope he can really bring it next season.

Well, he's gotten 100 pts before and has finished in the top 10 in selke voting. So I'd say his peak is a 100 pt, 40 goal player who can receive, but not necessarily win, a selke nomination. That said, I'm under no misconceptions that he's likely to hit that peak or maintain it, but he has been there once before...

Miller, next question.

2nd highest PPG in our history behind Bure, min 400+ games played.

It's so weird that he's back with the Rangers but I'm still in pain mentally when I read this stuff and realize that we gave him away for nothing back in the day and missed his prime. One of the worst trades in NHL history. Also traded one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL and our captain in the same trade.

If it makes you feel better, we pissed away his prime too, and now that he's gone, will surely continue to do the same in regards to Hughes.

As a neutral and objective fan, i would say Elias Pettersson AINEC. Miller brings with him highs and lows but ultimately too much drama. Pettersson has his ups and downs too but in the end you get a top quality player who makes those around him better. You win with that, compared to lockerroom problems that Miller lives for
