If you are the Vancouver Canucks management and you have to choose to trade one of JT Miller or Elias Pettersson because you want to bring all the locker room drama and nonsense to an end.

Who would you trade and why?

Pettersson.

We've seen what he can be when he's healthy and on his game, I'll take my chances on that. Plus his age aligns more with Hughes.

Not sure if you can really botch a Miller trade, but botching a Pettersson trade will get you fired.

Canucks would not get close to fair value for Miller because he has a NMC.

This limits the options on where they they can trade him, decreasing their leverage significantly.

And while he's been around a PPG player this season, he has not looked like the 90+ point player he's shown over the past 5 years so far this season.

I think I see this thread every week... And it's always a new thread.

Getting out of that awful contract won't get you fired, good chance he will never live up to it.

I went Pettersson from the perspective of trading him early in a huge contract while his value is still high.

But I’ll defer to Canucks fans who know both guys better.

There is the age difference.

I mean it really is contingent on return. Neither is in good form but there’s obviously a much longer rope for EP getting back to some semblance of his peek self because of his age.

Miller’s play combined with his age has been concerning to me this year. Whether it is lingering shoulder issues or other stuff that simply has to do with life…I’d be real concerned with an investment in him when he is turning 32 in a couple of months and has 5.5 years of a contract left. As a guy like Zibanejad has shown…sometimes when the cliff comes, it comes earlier than expected and much more steeply.

That’s not to say he’s still not a star level center or that some time won’t view him as the needed piece and offer a bunch for him. I just think it’ll be easier for a team to convince themselves EP’s contract, though clearly risky, presents more opportunity and thus more return for Vancouver.

I think there's a far better chance he returns to form. Even if he scores at a ppg rate and is a dynamic 2 way center that's well worth the contract.

If I were a GM of another team I would probably hesitate to bring any of these guys in. Not because they lack high-end skill, but because they've been unable to bury this hatchet after so many years.

The main culprit is probably Miller since he's older and even guys who likes him (like Brad Richardson) says he can't leave teammates alone. Then he takes a month off because he gets benched. But Pettersson seems like a bit of a moody diva himself.

And yet you have people like Elliotte Friedman who are actual insiders saying if Pettersson is dealt it'll be similar to the Eichel situation in terms of talent getting dealt and that there would be a long line of suitors, but sure I'll take 'Sky04' at his word that he's on an awful contract

You just need someone in the locker room to keep Miller in check and be able to tell him to shut the f*** up and sit down.

EP would bring more value and would be an easier trade since Miller got that no mover attached. Of course people will say Miller because he’s older and such. But, push comes to shove, freeing up 11 mill and some change a year and getting a boatload back will fill much needed holes in that roster. Just saying.
