JTM was also very, very good in the playoffs last season. He played like a true 1C.

We need that if we're serious.

Are we good enough right now? no. But it's a step in the right direction. It's on Drury now to correct the other weaknesses or this move is futile.

So next year we will be better? But how much better? There is no projection for Laf or Cuylle to be TOP players or all-stars. The defense is bad, straight up BAD. Lindgren being moved and being replaced turns the odds from BAD to not-as-bad.

Young players take a long time on average to contribute unless you get insanely lucky. Trades for mid players will just be more mid players who might be slightly better.

Realistically, next year, this team will fight for a WC spot and not even guarantee it.

I really really hope not, but this trade really does nothing for Cup chances. Maybe make the playoff prospect this year a bit more attainable? OK, sure. Maybe a little bit more attainable next year for a WC? Sure again. But ultimately, pointless for any Cup run. Team needs a complete overhaul.

Not necessarily against the trade but I echo the sentiments of other people that are saying this is a typical Rangers move.

In fact, this may be the most Rangers-esque trade ever. Draft a guy in the 1st round, fail to develop him, trade him and get absolutely jack shit for him, and then years later re-acquire him for younger players and a first round pick when he is already nearing the end of his prime.

It’s just so predictable and speaks so much as to why this team can’t win a Stanley Cup.

I love Chytil. But if someone asks me who will have more points for the remainder of Miller’s contract, Miller or Chytil, I’d put money on Miller without blinking. If I were asked who is more likely to be healthy and in the NHL for the duration of Miller’s contract, I’d bet on Miller even faster.

There is a lot to admire and appreciate about Chytil. But viewing this from an asset perspective, moving Chytil’s always inherent injury risk is smart and somewhat of a relief.

Miller was 9th in points last season and even with the locker room turmoil this season, he is still near a PPG.

The fact that Miller already played here, waived to come here, and has a history with Tro – who I would say is as close as we have to a de facto captain – means Miller probably feels more at home here and less likely to be a headache.

Miller should also theoretically make Panarin more dangerous.

If they are on the same line, teams really can’t double-team / over-commit to either guy. If they are on separate lines, then opposition has to focus on covering scoring threats on two separate lines.

I can for sure understand anyone’s discomfort with Miller’s age.

Miller’s age bugs me also. But this team has not had a 1C of this caliber in ages. If he can be a bonafide 1C for a season or 2, and slide down to a lower role as he ages, he’d be relatively worth his cap hit. Especially since we acquired him at dimes on the dollar.

As a big fan of Fil's talent, I agree with you about his trade value. It can't be too high. After all, who would trade full value for a guy that could be done if he gets another concussion? The answer is, a team that needs to hit an inside straight on the river.

We had Cup potential last year and we've since removed the underperformers and replaced them with significantly better players

Our entire 4th line is better with Carrick and Edstrom. Smith is producing more than what Kakko gave us. Borgen and Vaakanainen are much better than Trouba and Jones. It's not even a question how much the floor and ceiling is raised with JT over Chytil. We still have the Cup caliber goalie. Every veteran is having their worst year in ages. I dont think they all just fell off a clip in ability. Hopefully this provides that spark. I think there are good reasons why it might.

This team also needs to be in a playoff race. They arent a flip the switch team. Playing in desperation mode starting now is something that will help us if and when we get in. The Rangers are making the playoffs. Florida and Tampa and the top teams are hoping we do not.

And if they miss the playoffs, you can bet your ass Mika and Kreider will be gone this summer and the rangers will be going forward with the young core and Trocheck/Miller as the veteran leaders.

Clearly Miller's gonna wear 47 here, his first ever number with the team.

Also we better hope if we make the playoffs, we get Vancouver Miller (9-21-30 in 30 games) and not NYR and TBL Miller (3-23-26 in 61 GP)

I wonder if JT Miller will play today? That would be exciting! Im off to get my snacks and beers now. At a minimum this will make the rest of the season more fun to watch.

This is about where I am right now. Value-wise, it’s a great deal. But we still have all of the same problems we had before the trade and now potentially one more. But this is likely one move in a series of moves aimed at changing the culture. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
